Is it necessary to suffer for art? Well it doesn’t hurt!

Richard Weisser in a photo by Caila WoodThe first “White Christmas” in Newnan Georgia history prompted me to leave the comforts of hearth and home and head out into the storm in pursuit of holiday magic!

While I was setting up for a shot of a local “light” house, a friend grabbed this shot of me braving the elements as I endeavored to capture as much Christmas cheer as I could.

My rapture was such that I didn’t even notice the cold or the blowing snow! As a matter of fact, the only feeling that I had was exhilaration!

And so Christmas 2010 will go down in history as the year that Newnan Georgia has a white Christmas.

And it was a lot of fun being there to chronicle the snowy event!

Richard, I would love to be out taking pictures, but we are in the middle of a blizzard. I worry about my camera getting pounded with snow, I can't even hold an umbrella up, or I will be in Kansas before you can say "cheese"! Great shot of you, and wow, that house... LOL. What we do for art...

Richard - I loved the photo you took and commented on it on your other blog post.  You should use it as your Christmas card next year.  Worth the suffering!

Richard.  Getting out in the snow and cold is normal here.   I just don't get as good of photo's as you do.

Richard- I'm still like a kid the few times I've been in snow.  I doubt I would have been able to take any pics because I would have been out there running around like a kid!

Richard,

The thrill of snow wears off pretty quick...at least around here it does.

I do love the concept of the photographer being photographed though.

Richard ~ What a beautiful seen.  I can see why you wanted to get a shot of it.  I see santa on the roof top and I love that they went up the big trees with the lights.  I was out in it also taking pictures & sweeping the walk areas and didn't seem that cold until I came inside.  It is too cold today with the wind blowing.

ah yes... I remember the days, nights and early mornings of my photography career.  I actually liked the suffering... after the film came back from the lab.
