After purchasing my own home last year, I've gotten around to fixing up just about every room except the dining. That room came with off-white walls and saltillo tile on the floor. There's a big bay window on one end (it used to be a one-car garage that was later convered into a dining room.)
The saltillo tile has confounded me from day one. It's the terracotta color, by the way. If I design around it, I can only see two directions in which I can go. One is a southwestern color and furniture scheme, which I don't care for at all. The other is the classic Los Angeles 1920s style, with the wrought iron accents and vanilla-to-tan wall colors. I'm a little warmer to that idea, although it will seem pretty out of place given the the eclectic mix of my traditional and modern elements in the neighboring room.
If I get rid of it and stain the concrete, I'm going to end up with those old tile edge prints on the concrete. Unless of course, I put down a new coat of cement, which is above my skill level at this point.
Have you ever designed with a saltillo tile floor in mind? Any ideas?

If you love it, keep it. If you don't, let it go. Don't compromise, even if you have to hire some help. You will not regret it.
