Here is a great dip for New Years party or watching all the up coming football games.

Home made onion dip.

2 large onions thinly sliced

1 jalapeno seeded and deveined

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

¼ teaspoon each salt and black pepper

1 cup mayo

1 cup sour cream

Heat olive oil and butter, add onions , salt, pepper, and cook until caramelized.

Add cooked onions, jalapeno, mayo and sour cream into a blender or food processor.

Process slowly until onions has been incorporated.

Just by reading the title I thought, this will be perfect for New Years day football, and sure enough you read my mind. Looks like it would go great with Ruffles potato chips

Hi Richard... I don't seem to see onion dip as often these days.  It used to be a party requirement, but not as much anymore... I wonder why?

Steve,

Thanks for your comments.  Perhaps it is no longer popular because now everything has to have BACON in it.

Hi Richard - This beats the heck out of the "pour an envelope of dry onion soup mix into sour cream" recipe.

Thanks for posting one from scratch.  That "add the envelope" recipe has MSG in it, and I cannot eat it.

Debbie,

Thanks for your comments.  No MSG plus taste much better then the store bought stuff.

That's an interesting recipe..I'm tired of the dry packages of onion soup mix and this looks like it would be simple enough for me to make. thanks

With some potato chips and a cold glass of beer. Don't forget to cue up the movie.

That sounds so good and so easy- now I don't have to buy the soup mix all the time!
