I've spent the last three days at the Rich Dad Education Basic Training seminars in Phoenix, AZ.    I have an investor client who signed up to go to the training and asked me to attend as her guest.  I have to admit, I was a little reluctant to attend.  I'm a motivated real estate agent, but not necessarily a motivated real estate investor.

The first day of the seminar, I was impressed...    Wow!!! they have got some great stuff here, and I'm really learning some valuable information.

The second day of the seminar, I was a little deflated....  What do you mean.... Advanced Training!!!  What's that??   It cost how much??!!!

The last day of the seminar, I got over my shock and awe of Advanced Training prices ($9K - $43K), and accepted that this may just be basic training, but I really did learn a lot and I'm happy to say it was completely worth my time.

No I didn't sign up for the Advanced Training, as I mentioned above, I'm not a motivated real estate investor. My client who is very much a motivated real estate investor did sign up and I really think that she will gain a lot from the additional training and run with it.  I foresee her in 5 years laying on a beach somewhere, with not a care in the world.  (if that's what she wants)

Before attending the Rich Dad seminars, I did a little research about it on-line.  I found a lot negative comments and began to worry about what I was getting myself into.  I'm sure those negative comments stem from people who attended the 3-day training expecting to learn all there is to know about real estate investing.  I'm also sure they were a little shocked when they found out about the additional training costs felt a probably felt a little jaded.  I have to admit, I was very much taken back by the costs involved.  I didn't know the training I attended was a pre-cursor to more expensive training.

In the middle of the third day, I began to realize that there is no way to learn everything in 3 days!!  I truly learned a lot and I learned that there is so much more that I don't know.  I appreciate how our trainer spoke about doing everything within the letter of the law and that he was very interested in helping the people he worked with.  I felt that he cared about the people, not just the money to be made.  He stressed honesty and integrity in all deals.

As I was leaving on my third day, I knew that the program was good and that if a person was motivated enough to follow it, they would realize large profits quickly.

So if any of you are debating on going, my advice is definitely attend the 3-day basic training.  If you like what you hear and feel motivated, go ahead and take that leap into Advanced Training.  They will give you the knowledge, you just need to bring the gumption!!!

40 Comments on My experience at Rich Dad Education

Sounds like a fun and rewarding day.  How much was the basic training class, the advanced classes  seem so pricey!

I can't stand the upsell of these seminars....makes me sick.  What could you possible learn for 43k???

09/13/2007 11:04 PM by The BIG Mortgage Co.

I knew that there would be some "catch" when they advertised on the radio as a FREE Rich Dad Educational seminar.  I just didn't know that it would be that much.

09/13/2007 11:18 PM by Chris Molina, RealtorĀ®, Elk Grove CA (Cooper & Associates Real Estate)

Dawn - the basic training class was $495 for two people.

Vincent - that was the top package which included somewhere around 16 seminars (all 2-3 days each), software, and a personal mentor.

Thanks for your comments!

Did you find out if your client is satisfied with the advance training?

Yan - She has yet to take the advanced training courses.  Only time will tell.  Thanks for your interest!

I also attended the 3 day seminar for $250. A deal for a very good over view of real estate investing. I am a real estate investor so I new some of the things that were taught, I also learned some things. I also just completed my 1st advanced training class. Vincent asked earlier what could you possibly learn for 43K. How about almost everything you need to know about money, corporate structures, ways to make money and keep it. People spend a lot more money on higher education that teaches them how to do a job, how about an education that teaches you how to free yourself from economic slavery. I signed up for  advanced training classes at a cost of roughly $7500 for me. The classes are taught by people who have actual experience in the things that are being taught. I have also attended other real estate investment seminars. Rich Dad is the most comprehensive training I have ever had. I have read several books by Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad), if the amount of money bothers you, you might think about reading some of his books. I think you will find the concepts both enlightening and entertaining.

I went to the 3-day in tampa.

Over the course of 3 days, there is at least a total of 2 hours devoted to pitching the 9K-44K Advanced Training Courses offered by Rich Dad Education

The really underhanded thing is that the instructor does a tutorial on DAY 1 on how to up your credit limit by giving a phone script and make that an "exercise" to do over the lunch break

Then, the pressure is put on everyone after break by having a show of hands on who did it, along with a few testimonials

Here is what is underhanded about it, is that they are trying to have everyone do it so that they will drop the 9K-44K on their card on DAY 3 for the "advanced training"

I went to the three day seminar as well and brought my wife along with me. I went through a lot of different emotions as I listened to the instructor hint at the advanced training.  I thought that it was a bit unusual to ask people to sign up for aditional training that would cost a lot of additional money after they paid to go to this seminar to gain real estate training. To be honest i was a bit sceptical and a little put off.  By the end of the second day it dawned on me that there is now way you can teach someone all of the ins and outs of real estate investing in three days over the weekend. I mean, if you are really serious about becoming wealthy in real estate, and there are people who have succeeded and can hold your hand and show you how, why on earth would you not do that no matter what the price?  I mean, if you had an opportunity to sit with Warren Buffet and shadow him for a few days, and watch him manage protfolios and hedge funds,  I dare say that it would be worth a lot of money to you.  As I see it, especially if you have the means to buy the mentor program where someone actually comes to you and walks you through your first few deals, you stand to at least make your money back for the cost of the rich dad education itself. Doesn't that seem worth it?  it does to me.  I signed up.

Nora, Has your friend attended any of the advanced training classes yet. What did she think? Thanks.

Yes she has, I believe most by teleconference.  She has not had anything negative to say.  She knew going in that it would take a lot of work.

12/03/2007 01:31 PM by

I found out the Academy program is really run by Russ Whitney.  Whitney is famous for his multi-level "courses" which up the ante as you go.  This is troubling.

The mentoring program has not received good reviews either by some posters on other sites.

Hi everyone, my name is P3K and I am a 'Wealth Builder' ;) That was our slogan during the 3 days classes.. Yes my wife, mom and I attended the 3 days courses this week end January 5, 2008@ Atlanta; we own few properties, but struggling to many some profits. Everything that Nora and other said is through... The 3 days events would not only teach you about Real Estate but also about how important is your credit score, what are you fears of investing, how to go for your dreams and how to attract hat you want in live -The Secret-. Even if you are not interested to be a Real Estate Investor, for $495, you will definitely get more than your money. The regular price of the course supposed to be >$3000. The instructor and the staff know thier stuffs and defnitely how to  sale you your dream.  The first day would blow your mind because they are so much information to learn .. The second day pump you then hit you with the pitch sale. If you hink that $495 was a lot of $$$ wait to see the cost for the advanced classes they offer other the countries -On Demand or Live Webcam or On site-. If you want to learn everything about REI and get your Phd, you will need to take all 15 classes which can be done in 2 yrs. From Wholesale, to Option Lease, Foreclosure, Commercial, Land Development, Assets Protection, Tax, RV homes... all courses include the Rich Dad Software which gives you from all Real Time foreclosure properties in the country to manage all your investment properties to all contract template ... ok Here we go, Have a seat first is going to hurt:

For just the software, you can get it for +$1500 If you only want 1 course +$9000, 3 courses +$15K, 4 courses + Mentor $25K, ... for the phd program +80K..all those prices are on site only (3rd day of classe), after add 50% ..so the phd program goes up to $110K

WOW!! that what I said on the second day ..and my houselhold didn't even think about try to buy anything cause that was just out of our range... $495 wa s ok but +10K for classes, are you kiddind me.. but on the last day, last hour we did the inthinkible ..we signed up for the 3 courses @ 15k ... why? We have to try something different ..out of our comfort zone ..if we want to build wealth what a better way to learn how to from the best Robert K and his team. If we can get a lot of info for $500, imagine what u can get for 10K..I don't know how good our bad this is going to be but we can go back now without giving a try ..

I will definitely recommend to attend the introductionary class @ $495 and if you can offer the Advanced Courses, try to share the cost with friends or family to split the cost... " Knowledge is Power", if you want change, you have to be bold sometimes ..

Wish you guys good luck and if some of you already took some Advanced Classes, tell us what to except!!So Pray for us and let's hope that in 6/12 months i'll be back here with some good news and give to some of you more motivations for a life change.

I coach a gal in Seattle with Real Estate investing and she is still a slow mover.  No matter what somebody invests in a program it is totally what they put into it in the end that will make the difference.

I also work with a gal on Short Sales that only did Dwan Twyford's boot camp on CD's and she is tearing it up making money and learning a lot.  You can't teach a old dog new tricks, you just need a new dog......LOL

Education costs money...period. I have been to the introductory classes and opted out of the three day courses knowing they would try to up-sell coaching, etc.

Wow- A Sucker really is born every minute! Notice you haven't heard back from anyone on here posting about how they've followed the complete program and made their fortune...you only hear of people who are "excited" and "hopeful" about going to the advanced training. They're only trying to talk themselves into believing that they made a good decision and didn't just  blow thousands.

Do yourselves a favor and go to your public library for free and check out some real estate books. Once you've read everything you can find there, go to a bookstore and read a few current real estate books. Once you've done that, contact a few investors in your local community who you KNOW are successful and ask them how they got into it and what they recommend. People who are truly successful usually don't mind sharing with others how they got that way for FREE!

If after doing all this you still feel the need to spend thousands on bogus, ripoff seminars, help yourself!

Susan:

How much money did you make in Real estate? How much do you make in your day job?

02/16/2008 09:59 PM by Andy

Hey guys. I recently attended the 3 day basic training course here in Canada. It was definitely worth the money. Some of the things they tell you, you wouldn't really be able to find out without learning the hard way. Even if you  read some of the stuff in books, it really helps to have someone tell you about the application. I'm young but have more experience with properties than i should.. and have been looking long and hard for some decent education in real estate investing.

In the seminar i attended, he pitched the phrase "are you starting to feel religious?" reffering to his teachings and simply believing in what he says and not feeling that its all too far fetched. I suppose the advanced training is in a way taking a leap of faith. But its such an expensive leap. I do believe that in life you do get what you paid for. But paying for something that is not exactly reputable is hard in the real world.

I did sign up for the advanced training but am having so many doubts after reading all these reviews. And the fact that all their courses take only 3 days, does not help. I do feel that the appropriate course of action would be to do a LOT of research first, and then perhaps attend the course. In my opinion, it is no appropriate to market education like an infomercial type thing. "if you sign up now you get big discount!" fair enough they need to make money, but when you pay for the basic training, the entire thing should be education. They should pitch their course on their own time. I'm probably going to put a stop payment towards their course. And if i want to take it later, i will sign up.

Chances are, more than not, if you call and ask to sign up, and they tell you only full price is available, then you just tell them no. They usually negotiate something.

If i could at least find ONE person online to say they took the course and found it benefiting then i would further consider it. Otherwise, i must proceed with caution.  Hope more people post, or even recommend other seminars that are enlightening.

Hey people, I am a sophomore in high school in Knoxville, Tennessee and I will be attending this 3-day seminar with my dad this Friday, Saturday, Sunday. As I expected the seminar to be great, after reading the comments above I found it kind of flattering to some people who said that it would be a rip off paying K's amount of money for more advanced training. Well as I high school student, I foresee the world that the people who are limited in as a high schooler. Way before in my life I thought I wanted to be an orthodontist or medical field area job. I had completely ignored the idea of businesses and real estate. I thought it was boring. After reading the first series "Rich Dad Poor Dad" it had changed the paradigm concept in my brain thought that was very enticing to me. I really before hand thought of being someone in the medical field like an orthodontist would be fun but not as money making, but to real estate I had found the ideas of becoming rich instantly. I had got more interested and had continued to read the series of rich dad poor dad and read the book "why you want to be rich" by both the biggest real estate developer and investor Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki. I had definitly got more interested and that is why I had attended that seminar that held in my city, which lead to me to attend the $495 3-day seminar with my dad. My dad is also an open minded person, he seeks new ideas to live life too which is great having him with me for support on this subject.

I also besides real estate investing thought of other ways to make "big" money. Investing into the "Iraqi Dinar" is a big one also. I have recently bought dinar for a relatively cheap price. The dinar that I bought now would be worth 3X the American Dollar about 10-20 years ago. Since then, it fluctuated to a real cheap price $1USD=1206IQD currently. But researches say that the dinar will probably not reach that mark again but it will definitely someday reach up to the 1/1 mark.

Well that is all I got to say for right now. I will post again how the experience goes during this 3-day seminar this friday and please leave comments for me and questions! Thanks!

Thanks Aud

There has been some in-depth investigation into the background of Kiyosaki.  It is quite interesting material to find out how he REALLY makes his money.  I won't go into it because those who wish to believe will believe, those who don't won't.

PS.  Don't forget that Trump started building his empire with about half a billion dollars in family money.  Makes it a little easier I would think.

I just attended the 3-day "Rich Dad Education" in Minneapolis and thought it was worth every penny.  The instructor presented various investing options and showed, by examples, how these deals work in the real world.

If you crunch the numbers, it really doesn't cost that much..........

Total cost was $495....lets call it $500 for simplicity.  You're allowed to bring a guest though, so right of the bat that cuts the cost to $250/person.  The seminar ran from about 9am to 7pm on Thursday (with 1hr for lunch), 9am to 7pm on Friday (with 1 hour for lunch), and 9am to 4pm on Saturday (everyone brought a lunch, or ordered from the Hotel menu, so we could finish a little earlier on the last day).  That works out to 25 hrs of instruction.  Take $250/person and divide by 25hrs.....you get a cost of $10/hr/person.  Not that bad in my opinion.

What gets me is the people who sign up, attend, and then are dissapointed that they didn't learn everything there is to know about real estate investing in 3 days.

If you think about it, prospective surgeons don't start slicing open real patients after a few biology and physiology classes......they simply do not have enough knowledge at that point to safely practice medicine.  The same is true in real estate investing.  The 3-day training presents a broad overview of how real estate investing works, how to finance your deals, and how to protect your wealth through Corporations, LLCs, and tax law.

What it does not do is give you a punchlist when you leave so that you can immediately begin closing deals on Monday morning.  If you did that, you would likely make some major mistakes (because you don't know what you don't know) and probably lose alot of money.  It doen't matter if you stumble into a super deal and buy a great piece of real estate for a reduced price.....if you don't know what to do with it once you buy it, you're no better off than you were in the first place.

What I took from the 3-day seminar was this:

If you have the determination, you may become successful investing in real estate.  However, without the proper education, you are very likely to make some major mistakes along the way.  Only with KNOWLEDGE can you make these deals work every time, no matter what the current market situation.  The seminar outlined a very broad range of investment options and showed, through examples, how these deals actually work.  What the seminar does not do is give you a punchlist so you can immediately begin closing deals the second you walk out of the door.

They did market the "Advanced Training" at the 3-day seminar, but so what!!  We are marketed to every day of our lives in one way or another.  What people forget to realize is that the "Rich Dad" company is a business.  And what do businesses do?  The market their products and try to earn a profit.  Personally, I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

If you can't become wealthy in the United States of America by investing in real estate, then how are you going to do it anywhere else?

And yes I did sign up for the "Advanced Training".  I chose the 4-class option without the personal mentor. This cost about $15,000 and includes the software package that allows you to resarch any potential investment property in the country.  I just cannot see how a person could attend these classes and not be able to make 1 or 2 deals and at the very least, make back the money they spent on tuition.  And if you can make 1 or 2 deals, why not 10 deals, then 20 deals, then 100.  The possibilities are limitless.

It was a big step and I was very nervous to put that much onto a credit card.  However, I told myself not to think about "What if it doesn't work".  Rather, I have been concentrating on "What if it does".

What if this does work.

In that case, $15,000 will have been money well spent on an education that will allow me to be financially free.

Go, Learn and get out and DO SOMETHING....DON'T GET BOGGED DOWN IN EDUCATION.  you LEARN FROM TRIAL AND FAILURE.  You have to not be afraid to fail otherwise you will never try.  I am starring at a bookcase of 15 yrs of motivational books and they never made me a better person by reading them.  YOU HAVE TO APPLY THE PRINCIPLES.  Same with real-estate.  Take the forms they give you, find the deals, do the calculations, get money and have fun trying to make money.  It doesn't work all the time, but most of the time it does and it feels great.  Try  Armando Montelongo's book Flip And Grow Rich, and his Master Home Study Course.  He's the guy from the Flip This House on A & E.  He actually started from nothing and documented his process.  He'll provide all you need to know but you must still take ACTION.  We are on our 6th property and have supplimented one of our incomes.  wE WILL ACTUALLY HAVE SOMETHING TO LEAVES OUR KIDS OTHER THATN DEBT.   Its a process that has taken 4 years and the education always helps.  We are taking the 3 day Rich Dad Seminar and are looking forward to the nuggets we will bring home.  I rather put 15k on another flip or rental that will put money in my pocket now. Either way its going to take time and you need to start buying yesterday while the market is hot.  We wich everyone the best of luck!!  We are the very few, the others are in their cubicles decorating....

I took the 3-day class and signed up for coaching and advanced training.  My personal situation changed after signing up and they offered no refunds for unused classes/services.

Based on their refund policy (three days to think about it or no refund is available), I will never use Rich Dad Education again.

Personally, with the terrible refund policy, the rude responses from my inquiries, the hours on hold to evaluate my options (or lack of options), and no resolution other than them keeping my money -- NEVER SIGN UP FOR A SERVICE THAT THE UNUSED PORTION CAN NOT BE REFUNDED.

PERSUE OTHER OPTIONS, Not Rich Dad Education!

I am attending the 3 day seminar in Austin, TX tomorrow with my wife and am looking forward to it.  I am sure there will be some up-selling, which generally doesn't bother me.  I am sure there will be some great take aways well worth the $500.

05/02/2008 12:18 AM by Stephen

I am sure there is some value to the courses.  I do not like the idea of being sold the next course during the current course.  What school of higher education does that?  Just the infomercials.  The refund policy sounds horrible and unfair.  The whole thing is based on selling to people's emotions of getting rich quick.  That just does not happen too often in the real world.  Education and hard work over time is the key to making it in the real world.  I also think that you cannot spread yourself too thin.  Become an expert at a few things.  Save you money and find a less expensive way.

I attended the 3 day seminar because a friend invited me, and I kind of laughed at how hard of a sales pitch they give, but I also realized how you run a business. I run one myself, and sold it. You market, you sale, and you uplift people to believe you. Who would believe someone who is negative, monotone, and doesn't give a shit about what they are selling? Why would anyone but anything from someone if they were just depressed and lame about it? Salesman or actual investor or not, the speaker did a good job, made me believe "Advanced Training" was it. I personally went up and said "Is this it? Nothing after, you learn everything right?" and he said yes :)

I signed up for one class to start with, if I like it, I'll sign up for more.

My buddy and I split 1 class at 1995 a piece... Although we signed up 3 weeks after, I called and negotiated them back down :)

Nora,

I just got through reading the prior posts to your blog. I am not surprised at how many people think that you can learn to do something without training. Yeah sure the 9k -43k might not be in my budget or my goals. But if my goal were aggressive in "Real Estate Investing" I would not balk at it.

I have been to several of Robert Kiosaki seminars. They were always great. Yes sometimes motivating. And everyone needs some motivation every now and then.

I took a Rich Dad class at the Mesa Community College, Mesa, AZ a couple of years ago and it really enlightened me.  It was only the cost of tuition (around $200) and it was an actual class that met weekly for a semester.  This class really helped me get started in RE Investing and taught me what to look for in a deal.  Since that class I've become a Realtor and still read the Rich Dad series of books.  I would not pay for  an intense seminar, I've found that Kiosaki does not really give many hard facts and info when he speaks, he is very vague and somewhat befuddled.  And now there is this huge rift between his company and main advisor.

STAY AWAY.   RIPOFF....

I paid $495.00 for a 3 day  "Rich Dad Stock Success System" seminar. What a joke.  Most of the class time was spent selling their next series of classes, which cost $$$ tens of thousands $$$.  That's the "SYSTEM" - charge  a lot of money to attend the seminar, tease the captive audience with a few little tidbits of information, and sell, sell, sell them the next course(s).  Very little useful information - a lot of fluff.  A BIG WASTE of TIME and MONEY. Don't become another VICTIM!

im thinking you have to go big or go home

if your not willing to take a risk then you get no reward , and the bigger risk the better potential reward , right?

if you keep doing what you always did , you will get what you always got !

so im thinking a 20,000 $ investment for a chance at millions might be a good idea , and if you spend $20,000 and get to claim it, what did you really pay?

and $20,000 is a good chuck of money , so if I take this couse I would make sure its worth my while , and if you dont run with it then you can get mad at yourself for wasting $20,000

Thanks

Charlene

Hi Everybody,

I just came back from my Basic Course in Orlando, Florida and I'm as disgusted about Rich Dad education as I never thought as I would be.

First of all, when  I signed up for this " real estate investment" class, I have been told that the class will be dedicated to investment information only, esp. tax liens etc. I have been also told be the sales person that the $ 500. 00 fee comes with life long assistance from Rich Dad advisors / mentors. We have been also told that the average price of this training is  $ 1.000 - but we have been given a special discount that day. This was just lie #1. Nobody has ever mentioned that there are additional courses which will be offered at this class for 100k. This is a misleading of the consumer. !!!!!

When I took my first class on 08/08/08, I almost got a heart attack. The majority of time was dedicated to a cheap looking guy selling us  Advanced Courses, we have never heart about before. The prices were ranging from  $ 9.900 to the most expencive one" worth " $ 111.000.  This was the first and hopefully a last time in my life I when I was actually paying sb. to sell me their product. Really perfectly designed.

The entire day was dedicated to mental pressuring , when we have been all told that our college education is worth sh.. and that the only reasonable investment in our life is the Rich Dad's  " pyramid" . This was " seasoned " with personal stories of our " tutor " about him being morally equal to Mother Theresa since he never does real estate deals when he would take advantage of poor people. Well, he had no problem by asking the entire class to sell whatever we have to pay for his class. Funny. We have been also told that GOD will help us to make the right decision and to purchase the product and that we should swallow our pride. Well, our "mentor" definitely did .

And why do I mention pyramid? The basic idea of the book  is to become rich through a " MENTOR" . If u enter their expencive  " educational system" , u might become one of those. Until then, u need to spend tens of thousands of dollars to find out their secret to real estate investments which u may research yourself at a local library. And guess who is at the top of the pyramid. Mr. Kiosaky.

There are so many horrible stories associated with this class that I would need another three days to tell u all of those.  A small one, if u expect your $ 499 tutor to answer any of your questions, big mistake. It is either not the right time or he will answer your question later, but he never will. Well in fact he will, but only at the advanced cours.

On the other hand, out of 10 hours you spend there, you migh be given some interesting information served in small amount always after about  every two hours of " brainwashing " but only for about 20 minutes. Well they have todo so, otherwise they would made us all to  leave.

What to say at the end, if i meet Robert K. or his wife or any of his " mentors" , I will spit in their face.

I love Roberts books, but if Russ Witney has anything to do with the advance training keep one hand on your wallets.. Witney has been sued so many times it is crazy.

"Rich Dad" is simple propaganda that plays of the gulibility and weakness of the ignorant and simple minded.
