"White AFTER Christmas"

Our first heavy snow storm Sunday, 12-26-10 "White AFTER Christmas"

It started to gradually accumulate late Sunday morning and by noon the manager of the Big Flea Superstore where I have my Avon Boutique announced that due to the inclement weather the market would be closing at 2pm instead of 5 so everyone could safely make it home.

Tree covered branches in our yard. BEAUTIFUL ! On Sunday, the DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS, December 26th,2010 we got our first heavy snowstorm. It was so beautiful with its pristine fresh pure whiteness and the tree covered branches. It started about 11:30am and it came down thick and fast and furiously; in no time the roads became hazardous to drive because of poor visibility.

Fortunately I did not have to travel too far, less than 5 minutes from Cumberland over the line to Lonsdale, Lincoln, RI. By Monday, with the continued snow the compilation for northern Rhode Island and Lincoln where we live was approx 12 inches deep. My husband tried to get the snowblower to start but as you can imagine it did not run and we needed to shovel to get out.

The main roads were decent but not clear to the asphalt.

It's pretty.  Nice to not have had to deal with it on Christmas when so many folks are traveling on the road.

Carla, I agree the timing was perfect for me since I hate driving in bad weather, but for others they would have liked to have had a white Christmas. Those who Santa left sleds were able to use them.

Yes Kathleen, the first snow of the year is special. especially when it comes on Christmas.  Unfortunately, we got 34" here and the township public works is doing a job action because some got layoff notices.  Oh well, we can still enjoy looking at it before it gets all dirty and lumpy!  Have a nice new year.

Wow, 34 Inches, seems like the winter we had last year. I am hoping it will not be a repeat . We had storm after storm with an accumulation of of over 60 inches. They actually shut down our state for a few days. I agree snow is beautiful in the beginning  but once it turns brown and icy it becomes ugly.

BTW, thanks for coming to my blog as a first timer, please come again and a very health, prosperous new year.

Beautiful pictures.  I enjoy seeing where others live...we don't get much snow (if any) in the part of Texas where I live.  Stay warm!

Hi George, They were forcasting 24inches or more, glad we did not get that much. We still have mounds of snow that the wind blew into drifts. That will takes weeks to melt. Glad your snowblower worked, ours is at least 30 years and needs a full tune-up.

Kathleen, those are beautiful pictures of the snow. I hate to say it, but we were in the low 70s here in Flower Mound, TX today but I'm not a native Texan and I'm all too familiar with the challenges snowy whether brings. I've battled the blizzards my whole life growing up in Chicago and living in Northern, Illinois wasn't any warmer or colder. It was always a numbing, shivering episode followed by hot baths, tea or hot chocolate. I wish you the warmest long underwear, the softest mittens or gloves (don't you wish they came equipped with hand lotion - squeeze your fingers together and out comes warm hand lotion), the safest roads to drive on, and most of all, the best of health, safety and prosperity in 2011 and beyond! :)

I love the snow photos and the beauty that it brings to the landscape.  This Texas winter is so hard on me, yesterday 73 degrees and suny all day.  I know we will have a few days of freezing temps and I juist hope that I can make it through the winter. :):)

Hello Patricia, thank you for finding my blog and leaving such a descriptive comment of what is is like enduring the Northern blizzard weather conditions that I have to endure. We do need the long johns and the layering to keep our bodies from shivering. and yes a nice hot cup of hot chocolate, tea or coffee does remove some of the chill. I do wish you and yours the best of health, safety and prosperity in 2011 and beyond as well:)

Don, thanks for being a new AR visitor, please come again. Your winter sounds like my kind of winter, 70's is sensational. We are in the 20's at present and as you know our winters get to the single digits. The forecast for the next few days will be warmer mid 40's Yea:)

Hi Elyse,

Glad my photos brought back to your your treasured memories living in New York. I heard on the news this evening that the streets in Brooklyn are still covered with snow and the plows have not been able to do all the streets.

Happy New Year to you and your family, may you find joy and never be sad, and may 2011 be the best year you ever had.
