The past month has been a sports theme as far as my business is concerned. Earlier in the month Major League Baseball reliever Bobby Jenks was signed to a two year contract by the Boston Red Sox, leaving me to ask the question "What are the Jenks' going to do with their home?" I don't have an answer just yet but I did send a card thanking him for his time here in Chicago. I found a great card through SendOutCards.com that read" Some Say It's Only a Game......True and the Grand Canyon is just a hole in the desert." Who ever said that lead generation had to be difficult ? Why not be creative and have some fun.
Face it, professional athletes don't have time to worry about the details of moving to their next loacation and that's why I feel they are dependent on quality Realtors. The people who live and breath in a community and know it like the backs of their hand. The professionals who are driven to succeed much like the athletes they serve.
My wife and were watching the movie 61* the other night which is about the home run race of 1961 between Roger Maris and Mickey Mantel. Mantel tells Maris how he called his father and complained about being in the minor leagues and his father told he would pick him up but he would be working in the mines the rest of his life. Mantel realizes how good he has, starts to focus and the rest is history. The same could be said for a lot of Realtors. The markets may be tough but we can control our own destiny if we just focus in and get a little creative.
I enjoy looking at the parallels between our industry and sports and what I can learn from both. There is an old saying that Realtors don't retire, they just go listless. My parallel for this? Joe Paterno has said he will be back to coach the Penn State Football team next year. Joe is 84.
