Cold Daytona … or Daytona Cold

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

Cold is a very relative notion. We lived in the Arctic. It is commonly considered cold. Before and after we lived in middle Russia, and it often was cold there…

Then we moved to New York, and it was hot compared to Arctic, and very warm compared to Sunset in Daytona Beach - Jon Zolsky blogmiddle Russia. Now, that we live in Florida, in Daytona Beach, and we forgot about the snow... New York became north… and it is a cold place now.

We learned to whine even in Daytona Beach, and are now going through the second consecutive cold winter (compliments to Al Gore and Co.).  And everyone is bitching about it being so cold.

First time in all our years here we took the plants from the balcony and brought them inside. It is below freezing on some nights. Before there were 1-2 days like that in winter. Now we already had about 10 days with freezing temperatures…

It is second consecutive winter, when I for weeks do not wear shorts and flip flops, and I dug the closet for a sweater…

I know that many of you would laugh at me reading this and looking at this photo, taken at sunset yesterday. It was 58F, and it was so darn cold. Today it will hit 65F, and it is still below normal. Yes, the trees are green, the sky is blue, and the sun is shining in cold Daytona Beach. Or is it just Daytona cold?

Jon - I used to laugh when I would have to go to Hawaii to work and they would have the heaters running and jackets on at 78 F. Its going to be above 60 here on Friday and Saturday, time for shorts & T-shirts.

Tanya - we used to come to Florida in winter from New York, and at 57F we felt it was very warm, and yes, locals were bitching about the weather.

This is true, you cold and our cold is so different, but it is still cold

Tim - That's exactly what I am expecting to read in the reports. No matter how cold it is now, the year will be a record hot.

Jon - Here in GA we usually have the cold a day or so before sending it down to you; and it has been unusually cold so far this year. We've already experienced two measurable snowfalls and an ice storm--an entire winter's worth and we're only a week into winter.

When I was a kid in Chicago, I used to go to the beach when it was 55 degrees and lay out on a beach towel. It was usually nippy, but I didn't care. Sun was sun, and I worshipped it.

Jon, I bet the people in Russia think the average American is stupid for even considering global warming is real.

Mike - it is funny about Russia. Russians always like to brag about Russian winters, but they did not have a cold winter at least in Moscow for a very ling time. But still they liked the myth. And finally last winter was a true Russian winter, and it took very little time and the Russians hated it. It was record setting winter, with more snow (51 centimeter (a bit less than 2' of snow in Moscow) and crazy cold.

Nice job, Al (LOL)

Having lived in Boston (not the Arctic or Russia) but now in San Diego, I can really relate. During he recent rain storm, I actually had to drain some water off the top of the pool. We have it good.

Sally - nope, it is pretty dry here, but unusually cold for December. Air is much colder than the water n the Ocean

Mike - that exactly what I am talking about.

Long ago for me the time when you could not swim was when the water was under ice. that time has long gone. I now learned the Florida way, which means that you do not get into the water unless it is around 80F.

We are "warming up" to 33 degrees tomorrow courtesy of a warm wind and an ice storm. There is a foot of snow on the ground. 58 degrees sounds balmy.

Mike - no matter what happens to Russia in terms of extreme temperature, they blame Americans. Last summer they were engalfed in forest fires, and immediately there were a few gurus, tht attributed it to Americans.

They are paranoid

Leslie - yes, and for those in Fairbanks, Alaska, who have -10F now, 33 would wound balmy. And I still envy US Virgin Islands with their 82F.
