Wordless Wednesday ~ It's Tournament of Roses Time!

If you've lived in Southern CA for any length of time, it's likely that you've made your way to the Tournament of Roses, aka Rose Parade on Colorado Blvd. It's one of those things that we've done as a family now for almost 50 years.

Originally my parents would camp out among the other trailer people near Colorado and Sierra Madre. Eventually that lead to motorhome.  Our tradition continued though the generations with (then) grandma & grandpa, now I'm the grandma and a few things have changed. It's not an ever year event, we do it every now and then, last time was 3 years ago.  Plus, I someone prefer the hotel/motel reservations right on Colorado Blvd. instead of the motor-home.  That is if you don't mind the 3-night minimum at scalper prices, but hey location, location, location, right? Even with that, we still need to stake out our section of concrete in advance so it becomes a block party for most.

Here are a few photos from 3 years ago, we're always right on the street with all the action including all night long on N.Y. Eve. We're always right behind the painted blue line, and there is NOTHING like a street view!

Attending the Rose Parade is quite an event. If you find yourself in SoCal check it out, it's a real treat!

Hi Lynda - I love the Rose parade.  In my younger days I used to camp out with friends for the front row streetside spot. A few years ago we were fortunate to be given seats in the VIP bleachers, and that was magnificent!  Great view of everything and right by where the judges sit and a number of TV cameras are, so all of the bands and entertainment did their best stuff right in front of us.  We're in Northern California now and won't be attending this year, but have fun!

Happy New Year Lynda! Wishing you every wonderful and special happiness this coming year. I have wanted to be there to the Rose Parade since I have lived here and I still haven't made it. I think I would be in heaven and I can imagine all the photos. I would be running those photos all year, LMAO. Please think of me and photograph the heck out those amazing creations of art in flowers. Enjoy ,Enjoy Enjoy!

Hi Susan ~ We can relate, we too have camped out, even after paying for a room) yet you know it's important to ALWAYS have someone on the street to reserve your spot. Even my own Mom in her late 70's slept outside in a banana chair the last time just so she wouldn't miss anything.

William ~ YOU need to do it my friend!

Amanda ~ Yes, you're right, it's an amazing sight!

Lynda, What a fabulous tradition!  Being from Wisconsin, I would have loved to have been there!  Although the game didn't turn out the way I would have wanted :(  Thanks for the photos...I'm sure street side is best!  Happy New Year!

Hi Karin ~ Tnx, it's been a great tradition for us. Although the game didn't turn out for the red-side, most of us thought it was a great game. Both teams should be proud for making it there.

Hi Lynda---I never got to go, but I am from Ohio originally, and the OSU Buckeyes were at the Rose Bowl a lot when I was growing up.  Many of my friends were in band, so they got to go march in the parade.  I never realized the floats were so elaborate---gorgeous!!  What a fun family tradition!
