Hello everyone,

On New Year's Eve this year, Gene and I plan to stay in and be quiet.

We rarely watch movies, but I think, after a long, luxurious soak in the tub, downloading a movie to a computer while we have the candles burning and a good cup of hot tea--with champagne at midnight perhaps--and some chocolate, would be just the ticket.

What are some of your favorite "feel good" movies for such a night? We'd like to find a good one to download.

Thanks for your nominations! I'll let you know if we pick a winner.

Lottie - I don't know if these are good New Year movies but they are two of my favorites: 1) Shawshank Redemption and 2) Phenomenon

My perennial favorite is Groundhog day. It's lively, funny, and creative. We like to try to count the 'days'. It makes it much more interesting.

OK, this begs for someone to say "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Singing in the Rain." Me? I'll go for the funnies: How about "A Fish Called Wanda?" "Rude People" or (this one is from out in left field) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? That one has Robert Downey Jr. Who I could watch reading the phone book.

I don't know if you'd consider it a feel good movie, but I love

  • The Holiday
  • It's Complicated

I guess I just like Nancy Meyers movies.

Lottie ~  Oh, dear -- David already mentioned one of my favorites: "Home for the Holidays" -- it's a stitch and will have you laughing and recognizing members of your own family.  Happy New Year!

Thanks, everyone, for weighing in. Can you tell we don't "do" movies very often? I'm sending this post to Gene, who will find one to download for tomorrow night. I'll let you know what we chose!

Happy New Year to each and every one of you. You make life here on the Rain so much fun!

Lottie we just watched a very funny movie the other night - it was old - still one of those tape things.  I think it was called " That Old Feeling".  It was funny! Bette Midler at her best!  I really enjoyed it!

For us we're not movie watcher on New Years Eve......we have friends over and play games. Lots of fun!

Happy New Year to You!!!!!!!

Hi Anna -- playing games with friends is another great way to spend an evening; I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. Will you be taking a New Year's Day hike?

thanks for the movie suggestion--I do enjoy Bette Middler -- we'll keep this one in mind.

Happy New Year to you!
