Photos of my Favorite Look out point on the Kancamagus scenic highway N.H.

Any one that has seen one of my fall foliage photo blogs will recognize the strange name of this scenic route. The Kancamagus is a National - Federal scenic highway connecting Lincoln - to - North Conway New Hampshire. The views are spectacular, but that is not my favorite part of this White Mountain National Forest preserve. The route is 35 miles long from one end to the other and for that distance you see no: Wires, poles transformers, homes, gas stations hotels ...or for that matter no man made structures at all. There are however an abundance of places to pull over hike , swim , and take beautiful pictures. Here are a few Fall Vs. Winter shot taken less than three months apart that will show the beauty of the season in New Hampshire.

I fell in love with this heart shape tree, not need for a scavenger hunt...this is at the trail head for the Hancock notch trail (at the Hair pin turn).  The shot Below...same spot - ten weeks and3 feet of snow later.

This spot is six miles from my office and about 5 miles from Loon Mountain Ski Area...I had lunch here today.

Another Cool Spot along the "Kanc" is the Lincoln Woods Ranger station, many of the various hiking trails including the Appalachian trail can be reached from the camp ground. In the winter most of the folks are here to cross country ski. The old train tracks that once carried timber to the lumber and paper mills were dismantled years ago, but they left long relatively flat paths that run parallel to the river. We have even done this trail by the full moon (you'll need a national park sticker to park for any length of time though).

The East Branch of the Pemigewasset river runs along the "Kanc" and down stream from here it's pumped up the mountain to make snow at Loon Ski Resort.

This Foliage Picture was taken October 6th 2010...and the one above at the same spot 12/30/10.

The White mountain National Forest is a great place to get outdoors no matter the season or the reason.

Steve, very nice shots, I especially like the winter shot of the river, there is always something peaceful and calm about those winter/water scenes. Thanks and have a wonderful and safe New Year.

I thought about you last night, my wife works very near a local ski resort here, Liberty Mtn. She was saying that the whole week the place has been packed with families skiing, boarding and tubing. It has been affecting her commute, I thought about what you said about not skiing this week LOL

Steve I like that tree in winter.  It appears that a branch has twisted around itself, fascinating!  Happy New Year!
