Here in Denver we have enjoyed absolutely a wonderful Fall, with very mild weather. We even hit 70 degrees and broke all records earlier this month! Denver has a reputation of being cold, wintry and cold, and this is far from the truth! I remember many Thanksgivings and Christmas turkey dinners where we have BBQ'd the turkey or ham on the grill in short sleeves! Today, we FINALLY had a bit of winter. We got some snow, a blast of cold and felt REALLY good! Wednesday was 55 as a high, and today was only 15!
Unfortunately, I had rescheduled my pop bys from Tuesday to today and spent 150+ miles in my car in a snowstorm! I had three past clients to visit, and WAS NOT going to cancel again. I do have an SUV with AWD and go skiing, so there was NO REASON not to make it today!
Snow started almost immediately after leaving the house just before 9, and arriving in Westminster there was already 3 inches on their driveway! My client got a chocolate lab since he bought a home with a backyard, and he is only 9 months old, so listening to many stories about the "puppy days." It was just like having kids!
My next stop was in Brighton with a family that relocated from Venezuela to Alaska to Denver, and have three wonderful kids. We sat around the kitchen table for almost 3 hours laughing about how the little one threw up in my car and found it was altitude sickness! She is ALMOST nine now! I showed them a home when they first got here, and we had a complete whiteout and my Realtor friends said my client would not show up --- but coming from ALASKA, I knew he would - and DID!
The kids were excited to share what they have done with their bedrooms, and awards they have received in the last couple of years!
After I left, a lot has sure happened in the last 3 years, and should have made a better effort of getting up there before today!
The next trip was one I was worried about before going to sleep, as it was up Coal Creek Canyon, a two lane narrow canyon. With the impending snowstorm, this had my concern, and made sure my car was equipped for winter driving. Water - check, food - check, snow scraper - check, snow boots, a heavy coat, gloves, hat and was ready for today's trip!
This family was my Activerain referral from Robin Scott from Austin! This family had a new baby early December and I had not made it back up the canyon after they moved in to see how they made this house their HOME!
Not only did they paint, and add their personal touch to this home, but added wonderful memories, as they had a new baby! Kate is just beautiful and I got to hold her, and put her back to sleep. Oh, I guess I am boring! How delightful that is as a grandma!
Driving back down the canyon after 6-8 inches of fresh snow was a different story! This canyon has very narrow areas of the road, and many hairpin turns. I found out how to "downshift" my car, as I have not had the opportunity to drive in winter weather with it yet! Colorado is just beautiful!
It was not the blizzard the East Coast experienced, but we are pretty excited we got some moisture!
Enjoy the last day --- as 2010 is almost over!
