The Famous "Leg Lamp" in Northport Village, NY

A holiday trip to my hometown revealed a joyus amusement in town.  Northport Village is an old whaling community with a bustling historic Main Street that empytys onto a wonderous harbor on Long Island's North Shore.  The street is lined with old fashioned buildings which now house modern shops, restaurants and boutiques.

As I drove through town on Christmas night, I was surprised to see the Northport Hardware Company all decked out with holiday splendor, including a display paying homage to the leg lamp from the movie "A Christmas Story".

Turns out, the store now does an "Annual Leg Lamp Lighting", which drew a crowd of hundreds this year, according to Newsday.  You can click here for the article.

I chuckled at your blog, my daughter and I were just watching that the other day. Happy New Year!

We always watch it too.  My brother is a hug fan, I bought him a hallmark ornanment this year of Ralphie sliding down the red slide after visiting santa at Digbee's Dept Store.

Cute!  I live not too far from where the movie was filmed (in Cleveland, OH).  An investor bought the house maybe 5 years ago and did a lot of restoration work to it and made it into a museum.  I keep meaning to get there with the family, but haven't made it just yet!

I actually saw a leg lamp in the store the other day.  My entire family loves that movie.
