Pay It Forward--One Bag of Groceries and All My One Dollar Bills

I donate regualarly to the direct contribution charities that pick up in my area every couple of weeks. Many of them pass clothing and household items directly to the needy, rather than placing it in a store for resale.

Norma - I applaud your resolutions to help! I just want to mention one thing, in case you didn't realize. Food banks can often buy food FAR cheaper than we can get it. So if you give a food bank $10 instead of spending $10 at the store they might be able to get four or five times as much food.

I do understand that it's more satisfying to buy the food and deliver it and I don't want to spoil it for you. Please, do continue that if it's what your heart wants. I just wanted to put that out there.

I love the "If I didn't wear it in 2010, someone else will in 2011".  I have actually started something new this year, everytime something new comes in, something old has to go.  Of course, its easier said than done but I find it does keep me more focused on what I actually own and wear and need. 

I also donate my clothes to a woman's shelter.  Many times they don't have clothes that are nice enough to wear to a job but yet they cannot afford nice clothes until they have a job.

Keep up the great work..by helping others, we benefit as well!  May 2011 be great for you!

Norma, you did a great job in December. I especially liked the regularity with which you helped others. That's a habit I want to develop. Just like with business, fitness, or anything else, have a plan and stick with it.

Norma - This is a very nice gesture. I gave a little bit last night at dinner. I had two gift certificates that I used for the bill and the left over was going to be for the waiter. Instead of the normal 20% tip it turned out to be 45%. The waiter said, "are you sure"? Yes, Happy holidays to you.

We also quarterly go thru our clothes and donate to the local charity.

Wonderful post.  I spent yesterday compiling a large amount of things to give to those who can enjoy them more than I have put them to use this past year.  Out with the old - no use hoarding!  I try to teach my daughter the same patterns - if you haven't used it, worn it, listened to it, etc - let someone else enjoy it who will appreciate it more.
