Tampa is the County Seat for Hillsborough County. It's earliest European recorded history is in 1528 when the Spanish Explorer Panfilo de Narvawz landed near the the Tampa Bay area with over 400 soldiers. They found an area that was inhabited by Indian's. The English established Fort Brook in 1824 at the mouth of the Hillsborough River. Tampa slowly became a sleepy fishing village. Which it remained until the railroad arrived in 1885. The advent of the railroad allowed for industrial and commercial development and many different ethnic mixes of people began arriving in the Tampa Bay area. This created Tampa's mix of different ethnic cultures.
