An article in today’s Toronto Star has a small article about putting your “life list” down on paper so that you commit to fulfilling your dreams.
Now, lists featuring your goals are nothing new. Life lists are just today’s jargon for goal setting. Years ago Oprah used this concept to create her “Top forty by forty” list and inspired many people to build their own list, commit it to paper and then fulfill their dreams.
On this season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she too is encouraging viewers and celebrities to create their own lists to fulfill.
Believe it or not, there is even a website dedicated to building your list. 43things.com poses the question “What do you want to do with your life?”. The website helps you to “discover what’s important, make it happen, and share your progress”.
Ironically, yesterday I caught a rare opportunity to watch a movie, Last Holiday. The movie is based around Georgia Byrd (played by Queen Latifah), a store clerk who finds that she only has three weeks to live.
After leading a very cautious life and living her dreams only through a scrapbook called her “Book of Possibilities”, she throws caution to the wind and turns her book into the “Book of Realities”. It is a very lighthearted movie that carries an important message…”we can choose to exist or we can choose to live life to the fullest”.
Last Holiday is a really great movie and ties into the holiday season very nicely. I always love a good Christmas movie.
Take a moment and ask yourself what’s on you list and then turn your book of possibilities into your book of realities.
