When you post on Twitter and Facebook, do people REALLY hear you?

For my first official post of 2011 (Happy New Year Readers!), I thought I'd share an entertaining story about my Twitter / Facebook experience today.

When I write a post to Twitter, it automatically updates to Facebook. I updated both so that I can have conversations with my friends no matter which application they use. Over the past 2+ years I have been on Twitter and Facebook, I've shared many things - business and personal. I get plenty of responses, but never one quite like this...

Today, I posted a comment on twitter which read:

"Andrea and I made a Roast and homemade 3 Cheese Potatoes. Smells really good. Come on over, we made plenty."

Wouldn't you know it, two of our friends (and their family) showed up at the door. It was such a pleasant surprise and luckily I really did have extra potatoes to share. Marck and the kids tried them, with positive comments (at least while they were here :-)

I'm happy to know that my friends are listening to me, even when I post randomly.

This was a first for me. Have you had any similar experiences?

John, that's a great response. I have never had anyone show up like that but then again I've never made that type of open invitation before either. Ha!

I did post on facebook along time ago that I wasn't well and I got several comments but surprisingly I got two get well cards in the mail several weeks later from my sister & a friend in Ireland, neither of which use facebook. They just heard about from others that do. I thought that was very KEWL :)

Charles - You are probably doing facebook, which is fantastic. Twitter is not for everyone, but I have really enjoyed it.

Jody - You should give it a shot... see what type of respones you get. I'm actually guilty of posting similar things in the past, especially when I make a desert or something on the BBQ. For some reason with this comment I thought it would be cool if someone popped in (actually thought it would be my sister in law). So, when our friends popped in saying they read we made food, I was pleasantly surprised.
