Once a month, Paula, a Librarian at the Farmington Library, arranges to have her dog, Tucker, come in. He is a wonderful Therapy Dog who is gentle and fun.  Children can sign up and read stories to him for a block of 15 minutes.  Tucker is trained to lay on his blanket until the book has been read.  After the story is over, Tucker performs tricks such as saying "I Love You", rolling over and balancing a treat on his nose until Paula says "ok" where he then flips it off and eats it.

You can bring your own story or read from the selection that Paula has chosen, which is usually about the current season or holiday.  Check out the library site here.

I started bringing my daughter to see Tucker before she could read.  She was able to explain the pictures to him to tell the story.  Now she is beginning to read and can participate fully in the book reading fun.

If you have kids or grandkids, check out your local library- they may have a similar program.  Kids love it and its great for developing their reading skills.

That is too cute, Julie! I have heard and read about therapy dogs, but this is the first one with kids reading to the dog!
