Goals for Investors Starting A Career In Real Estate - Virginia Wholesale Real Estate: Those that may be interested with a career in real estate investment have some things to consider. When you are trying to decide whether or not this is a path you’ll do well taking, think of the way you approach your projects in general. Do you just jump in with both feet first, and then try to sort out the details as you go along? Do you think about what you will be trying to accomplish and then make a plan that follows the objective?

Goals For Investors Starting a Career In Real EstateGoal setting and having written documentation of those goals is a well known success formula that is a common thread that links nearly all of the most successful business people together no matter what their industry or their business may be. A study conducted decades ago of a graduating class from an Ivy League university pointed to that fact. Only 3% of the graduates had a written plan for their career goals. They were surveyed again two decades later and it was revealed that the 3% with the goals when leaving school were worth more than all of the other graduates put together. That’s quite a statement and a tribute to the power of writing your goals down and following the steps to achieve them.

Planning and setting goals is very important to success as a real estate investor, just as it is in most other walks of life. There is money to be made here, but you should have some good business practices in your bag of tricks. That’s not meant to discourage you if you are the type that jumps in with both feet first. Planning and goal setting can definitely be learned. Most folks just never need to operate that way in their current circumstances.

Even if you are the type that sets goals there are some that are specific to the real estate industry and investing in particular. The basic goal setting principles should be followed first, of course. Those principles include specifics, measurability, deadline oriented, realistic, and they should be in writing. The real estate investment specific goals should list your objectives including the why you are buying real estate. Will it be for cash flow, for equity, or for growth of capital?

A good example statement of goals for real estate investment could be something like this: I, so and so, plan to buy enough property in one year to create an additional income of $5,000 per year. This is a good example for starters. You’ll modify and adjust your goals as you go along, but this would be a good start.

they are so important and to have them written down and visualize is equally important. I believe you have to have a way to measure your progress.
