I just received my Westport real estate tax bill and will be filing for a tax abatement,
The taxes in Westport at $6.71 per thousand of assessment for 2011 are actually low compared to neighboring towns & cities. ( Rates are for 2010 )
Dartmouth Ma real estate tax rate is $7.85 Fall River Ma real estate tax rate is 9.04
If you own property in Westport Ma or another town / city in MA & you feel your real estate tax assessment is too high, you have the right to contest your assessment. To do so, you must file an application for an abatement in writing on an approved form with the Board of Assessors. You may apply for an abatement if you believe your property is valued at more than its fair cash value or it is not assessed fairly in comparison with other properties. I would be happy to give you a Free Comparison of properties similar to yours to support your claim.
This is a FREE service I am pleased to offer to my family, friends & valued clients. The deadline to file an abatement is Feb. 1, 2011. Call me at (774) 930-8181 if I can be of assistance.
You also may be eligible for a TAX EXEMPTION (Reduced Taxes) Exemptions are available if you meet the various requirements. ELDERLY, DISABLED VETERAN, BLIND, WIDOW OR WIDOWERS Call the local Assessors office at (508) 636-1012, or visit http://www.westport-ma.com/assessors/index.html for more information and Helpful Instructions when filing your Abatement
