I loved this, and I did see it on tv.  Trying to think of something we could do here locally, maybe a calf drop?

Lee & Carol,

Omg, what a hoot! Loved the shirt "the other white meat", looks like everyone had a good time and Opie was back to do whatever they do.

Btw, I've got one in my yard in the OC every now and then, yet yours look just a little larger, must be the fresh air and southern living.

I Move You Home

You'd think that the little thing would have a heart attack between the guns, fireworks, and drag show.

I had one slink into my sun porch a year ago, and wasn't even sure what it was.  I left the porch door open hoping it would leave, but it slipped behind a heat register and slid down to the basement through the duct work.  Then, I went into a panic worried that it would die in the ducts of dehydration, stink up the whole house, and I'd have to open up all the ducting to find it's little carcass.

Then, I noticed that the cat food dish was clean as a whistle.  The dog would bark wildly at something at night, and the cat's dish was always empty.  I called Minneapolis Animal Control, they told me, "You are on your own, we don't do possums."  It took me weeks to find and ferret it out.  By then it was the size of my cat, and didn't want to leave.  My daughter helped coax it into a box, and we released it into a neighbor's garden with fresh fallen snow.  It gave us a sorrowful look over it's shoulder and waddled off under the bushes.

I gave my daughter a look, and she said, "Don't you dare!"

Great fun! Gonna have to pass this on to my friends in Wausau though. They believe firmly that they are the Possum Capital of the world and have been holding their annual possum festival in August for over 40 years now!

Better not be standing too close as they lower that one down, Wanda!

We do have great mountain air out here and Opie has certainly been staying away from the roads. Clay's Corner is such a neat place to stop in and check out all the possum "stuff" and talking with Clay Logan is always a hoot, Lynda. Didn't hardly recognize him without his hat on :)

WOW is right Gary! The John C. Campbell Folk School isn't the only world renowned destination in Brasstown, NC.

It takes a lot more than that to scare off a night creature like that possum, Mary Jo. They aren't afraid of dogs or people and I think their favorite meal is cat food. My Mom had one on her porch that would run all the cats off - he was bigger than the cats and most dogs too :)

Give us a link to that Wausau Possum Festival, Jim. Maybe Brasstown will eventually have their own festival too. If its as much fun as the Possum Drop its sure to be a winner!

Lee and Carol - Link to the Wausau Possum Festival. This really is a big deal here in this small community and is the main fundraiser for the local Volunteer Fire Department.

This is as exciting as Groundhog Day in Pauxetauney, PA on Feb.2. Maybe more so as we don't have cross dressing demos when the temp is -5. Thanks. I won't soon forget Brasstown, NC home of the possum drop.

I was worried at first.  I thought they were going to drop it from a great height.  This guy is disappointed they didn't use him:

OK.  I think I have to put Brasstown, NC on New Year's Eve on my bucket list.  Although, I hate to admit it, but possums always remind me of really big rats.  Especially when they are scurrying away and you only see their long, wormy tails.
