If you don't know who Sam Bradford is, you must not be a fan of college football. Sam is an official citizen of the Cherokee Nation and played football at the University of Oklahoma. As a sophomore, he set the record for touchdown passes by a sophomore quarterback with 36. He was only the second sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. In spite of missing most of his junior season with a shoulder injury, Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams as the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft. That means that he became an instant millionnaire. Most instant millionnaires spend their money on a new house, a second home, a third home, a new car, a second car, a third car, a new boat, a cruise around the world, lots of jewelry, sex, etc. Maybe a house for mom just for good measure In an interview I just watched, Sam was asked what his big purchases were with his millions of dollars. Note that the interviewer said "purchases." Plural. Sam's answer: a ping pong table. He did say that it was a very good ping pong table. What a humble guy. I hope some of these other sports/movies/recording egomaniac stars learn something from this young man. I didn't know who he was until I read your blog, but I'll bet we'll be hearing more about this grounded young man.
People like Sam are rare, you're right more could learn from him. All the best in 2011 Jim!
Jim, amazing! I am not a football fan, although I won the football pool 3 times last year. Made many very angry I have to say. This is one kid I would be interested in hearing more about!
There are plenty of young football players who march to the beat of someone else's drum instead of their own. I love the "I am Second" campaign and he and Colt McCoy have been featured on that as well. Thanks for the insight!
