Coal Creek Colorado is one of those places you probably wouldn't find on accident. To find this small town you really have to know where you are going. Just south of Florence and part of the "Tri-City" area along with Rockvale and Williamsburg. This town was once a bustling coal mining town.

The Eureka Lodge (1887) and two old store fronts are monuments to times gone by. Today the population of approx 180 lives in a variety of housing : new construction, old mining buildings and modular buildings. The main attraction to live in the area is that it is off the beaten path, prices are affordable and jobs are close by.

Those sound like pretty good reasons Dena!  Colorado is full of all kinds of different little towns.

Dena, the guy who live in the house on the right really needs to mow his front lawn before the neighbors start to complain :)

WoW, Dena, those are really old buildings.

It does look like a mining place too. I imagine there are some real characters living in that town.  Thanks for posting it to the Heritage Properties group.

Neat pictures....kind of looks haunted.

Jo-Anne, Character for sure, hunted is a possibility, heritage is certain. People who live here come in every shape and size just like any where else. But there are a few people in this town who have NEVER crossed the Arkansas River, approx 8 miles away. And I know of one house that is made of the wooded boxes that they use to ship silver in. A very, very sturdy house constructed almost entirely of 4x4x10 boxes.

George, Unfortunately that old shop has been vacant for years. The town is so poor that they don't have the money to keep up the weeds. The upside is that building goes up for sale once in awhile. Land, building and utilities approx $45K

Joanne, I live in a near by town. People often ask me whyI live where I do. The reason is simple - it's got no place to go but up!

Coal Creek could easily become a ghost town or go the other way and become very popular again.
