What you don't know CAN hurt you! If you are promoting your business on Facebook you should check this out

Facebook (For Business Promotion) Gross Tactical Error most businesses make:

Businesses assume Social Media is for getting YOUR message out.

Facebook filters out business messages that don't meet certain criteria

So you got your business on Facebook and you're hoping to "get your message out" via social media, how do you know anyone is seeing what you're posting?

When you put something on your FB wall, you're assuming all of your Facebook friends are going to see it? You sure about that?

Everybody knows they need to do something to promote their local small business on Facebook

When you post TO your FB wall but don't proactively seek INCOMING inquiries of your FB friends ON your wall... FB is killing your outbound messages, and here's how:

When you first log into Facebook you're taken to your New Feed, so is everybody else, especially if you're viewing Facebook from a smartphone. That News Feed is the aggregate total postings, comments and shares of your FB friends, in other words that aggregate is your own little "Network"

If you're preoccupied ONLY with getting YOUR message out, and could care less about shares of people within your network, you're likely to jump straight to your Wall.

Everybody in your network is viewing the aggregate News Feed, that News Feed is divided into 2 sections:

Top News and Most Recent

In a nut shell, if NO ONE is Posting TO your wall, your message isn't getting out to THEIR Wall

You've got to EARN the right to have YOUR message "get out", to earn that you've got to have OTHER people "grant that right to you", by YOUR enticing THEM to 'say something" on your wall.

Facebook is best used as a "Blog Delivery System", what you want to do is YOU "speak to", or "engage others in conversation" (earning you the right to get access to THEIR FB friends news feed), and your blog will post YOUR outbound messages automatically. Why Your Website Should Be A Blog is explained in our earlier post.

How?

Load up your Facebook business page and your personal FB profile with your Blogs RSS feed. A conventional website will not suffice, you've got to have a blog to get this done.

Every conventional business website needs a corresponding "supporting" blog, in order for you to get the benefit of marketing on Facebook. Facebook filters out business messages that don't meet certain criteria.

Effective Social Media Marketing knows:

It's not for YOU to talk to them... The SOCIAL in social media translates into it's for THEM to talk WITH YOU!!

That's your basic premise... otherwise all you're doing is using social media to spam the hell out of your "friends"

Nice article, I very much appreciated your original approach toward this subject. Most "corporate" blogs I see like this just give you a bunch of canned, poorly veiled banter about why social media has "arrived," without mentioning specific strategies. I do have a question...can you guys develop a real-estate specific custom branding app? Preferrably in FBML. We need someoe to code the app, and someone to manage it. I tried to find an example but the cloest I could find is this

SAMPLE CUSTOM BRANDING APP (NOT JUST FOR REALTORS, BUT WITH REALTOR COMPONENTS)

mindflashad.com/branding-concept-quiz/

(sorry I tried posting the actual Facebook version, but I could not post links on your blog so I posted the frame source instead, just imagine this page within Facebook when you check out if you can do it or not)
