31 Days of January-Day 1 Calling all Coats!

I just started blogging with active rain in late 2010 and it is taking me a little while to get caught up with all the challenges,Happy New Year groups, etc.  I read a blog this morning that mentioned the 31 days of January challenge and knew I was not going to be left behind this month.  Granted I will have to do three blogs today to catch up.

So, my first day of January I slept in until 9am!  What a glorious feeling to not have to get up for anything.  I didn't stay up late, drink to much, or have big plans for the day.  My family and I were going out to hit a few stores have a little lunch and just try to do nothing but hang out together.  We accomplished this, by the way.

I work for Long & Foster in Gainesville and am in charge of distributing the items collected in our office for Coats for Kids this year http://activerain.com/blogsview/1974416/coats-for-kids .  I received a call from a women that got my name and number out of our local, small newspaper called the Bull Run Observer http://www.bullrunobserver.com/ .

She was looking for a long coat for her mother who has cancer.  I told her that all the coats I had at the time were men's coats that did not fit her needs.  I got her name and number and told her that I would be out shopping all day with my family and I might come across something that would work for her (we do some thrift shopping here and there!)

Well, I didn't find her a coat on Saturday, but my goal for this week is to find her one, even if I have to go out and buy one.

Not an exciting start to my new year, but it had all the ingredients for a happy me:  family, shopping, food, and helping others!

Happy New Year.
