11 Comments on Waterbury CT City Hall Re-Dedicated after a Major Face Lift
Ed....what a wonderful post....having roots in a community is very meaningful and when those old photos are displayed it brings back memories of how some things change and also remain the same....I have many memories of generations of my family at the town common in my town.
I enjoyed the historical nature of your blog Ed. What a beautiful piece of architecture and I agree, much more attractive than a new glass structure! I love the photo of you, your brother and mother.
It's nice to see that the money invested was put towards a renovation rather than demolition of this historical landmark. It's definitely a beautiful building.
Barbara, there are so many fine structures in thedowntown area that are worth saving, including 4 other Gilbert designed buildings. Thanks for stopping
Wanda, this location was about a 1/4 mile from where we first lived, all of which has been torn down. The building is very beautiful inside.
Craig, not all progress is positive, this was. Thanks for stopping
Ed -- Wow, that's some restoration. The interior is beautiful. It should look great in the spring when the landscaping is done. I'm glad Wtby decided to restore rather than tear down. Whatever they replaced it with could never come close to this.
I love history and old buildings -- you gave me both! Thanks!
Ed from what I can see in the pictures they did a fantastic job of give the Waterbury City Hall a face lift. They now have a building that should service them for many more years.
Barbara, they did do an incredible job, down to the details. One of the honorary guests was the great grand daughter of the designer, ad she was highly choked up as she toured the building.
Cinnamon, thank you as it comes from an old person as well.
George, yes it should but they do need to be more careful as to how they take care of it. The building had fallen in to quite a state of dis-repair, with chipped and peeling paint, etc. Maintenance of the building can only do so much, then it comes down to care and attention and that's expensive especially when the towns are all hurting for funds.
That is a beautiful building, Ed. And what a great day to choose for the rededication. Happy New Year.
Excellent information Ed which makes this sn informative localism post!
Hi Ed,
thank you for sharing this beautiful photos...I love buildings of times old, castles....my memories go back to Germany, to Munich...
.... the locals can be very proud for putting all those resources in preserving history to future generations and beyond, and making a global contribution to something that is sacred, and that is the meaning that provides it with its special power... peace, tranquility, and great architectural finesse...because that impact goes beyond individual belief system or culture...it is universal. Thank you for sharing. Peter -- Perth -- W.Australia
