Mastermind Groups

Masterminding with others, is this a good thing or bad?  Have you tried it and was it successful?  I have done the mastermind sessions a couple of times with mixed results.  I have found that I am a hands on person...I feel I work better with others but I also like having a task and knowing I will have an end product.  This doesn’t work for everyone and that’s OK too.

I have tried small groups of 3-4 people and I even tried a group that had over 10 agents.  One of the issues I have found is with the large group there was little follow-through, however with the smaller groups I have been getting a lot of agents that are complaining they weren’t a part of the “group” or have asked why they were left out.
No one has been intentionally left out of anything, and most of the mastermind groups were a spur of the moment group of agents who all wanted to learn or work on the same thing.  So I am asking for help...do you have a mastermind group and if so, how many people and how do you decide who’s a part of the group.
I look forward to hearing all your ideas!

I have found that it depends on the personalities. Our profession is very alpha and having too many strong personalities does not always work. I have had good luck with smaller, hand selected groups.

Shawna~ Great topic...I adapt well in any size group but if I had to say my "favorite" I like smaller so everyone can have input! N.i.c.e blog!

For a few years, a group within a group of tech savvy agents, of which I am a member, had weekly mastermind meetings by webinar.  There were nine of us and we each brought things to the table to share and grow our businesses.  It was the most productive time spent, with tangible results for many of us.

Ellie, truer words were never spoken when you say strong personalities!

Melissa,  I too enjoy the smaller groups...just not sure how to keep people from feeling they are "excluded".

Geri, I find that my mastermind session are very productive and actually keep me motivated to do or try other things!

Big believer in Master Mind groups. Napolean Hill and Think and Grow Rich can not be wrong.

If an agent mentions that they "would like to be included" then consider them for the next one.

If an agent "whines that they were left out". They are a negative whiner and you need to keep them out. Next meeting they will wonder where the donuts are.

This is about positive people with thought provoking ideas.

Stay at it and best of luck.... :-)

Hi Shawna~ I love the idea of a mastermind group.  I've tried it before and was not successful.  I believe the true challenge is to find like minded individuals to participate.  I agree with Joe about positive attitudes too.  I also think smaller groups work better.

Joe, so far I really like doing the master mind groups...thanks for the advice!

Donna, no one in our office has done master mind groups before and since I like it, I am trying to spear head it...and by spear heading it, trying to get like minded people hooked up together.
