Eureka California is a great place to live and raise a family. Eureka is about 6 hours north of San Francisco and 2.5 hours south of the Oregon border. The main road to Eureka is US Highway 101. The drive up from San Francisco is a nice drive because of the Redwood trees and nature that surround the area. The land towards the east is a bit hilly, but on the west side lies the Pacific Ocean. Eureka is the main city in Humboldt County California, to the north are Arcata, McKinlyville, Trinidad, Orick and Crescent City. To the south is the friendly city of Fortuna, the famous city of Ferdale (where the movies Outbreak and The Majestic were filmed) and Rio Dell/Scotia.
Eureka California has that small town feel, but it also has two malls, the Bayshore Mall and the Eureka Mall who house some Box Stores like Mervyn's, Sears, Ross, Boarders Books and others. There are many activities for everyone to do and enjoy in and around Eureka, such as surfing, hiking, camping, fishing and going to live theature shows down town. If you want to live in a city with a small town feel, yet have those big town luxuries, then Eureka is the place for you. Don't suppose it's anything like the television show? That would be COOL! ;-)
