What Great Stuff Did I Take From 2010 – Valuable Lessons Learned!

My 2010 was quite a learning experience.  I’ve been thru some quite trying times in my life.  In the past 24 months, I’ve lost my business a close family member of mine had passed and many times I felt quite lonely.

But from all that had happened I have learned a valuable lesson.  As I was going thru my tough times a mentor of mine told me to ‘leave all baggage in the rear view mirror’

Thru my journey, I have conditioned myself to take total responsibility for anything that happens in my life.  I mean when my business that was profitable at one time had taken a total dump, I blamed everything from the economy, my friends, my health and even other real estate agents.  But then like a light bulb I came to the realization that nobody held a gun to my head and said either my brains or signature was going to end up on my brokerage agreement. (yes I took that from the Godfather Movie)  I made the decision to come into this great business in 1999 and each and everything that happened either good or bad I had manifested for myself.

I drowned myself in reading good books.  The book that stood out to me the most was ‘The Noticer’ by Andy Andrews.  It’s a fictional book, but so well written it had me ‘noticing’ myself and knowing that things are ALWAYS what they seem because it was from the perspective that I gave it.  Once I started conditioning myself that nothing ever goes wrong in my life, not only my business and health, but my personal life turned around and I met the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.

2011 is going to be a phenomenal year for me and I wish the same for every person that I come across in my journey thru life!

Make it a great Year!

I like this attitude and post!  Good luck in putting all that baggage in your rear view mirror.  I will check on the book - it sounds like a great "read".

I read the Noticer in 2010 too. It certainly was a great book. May I asked if you've read, The Go Givers by Bob Burg? It's an awesome read.

One best thing my co-worker ever told me was, When I felt my corporate job on the last day (I left with a heavy heart because I was leaving the KNOWN behind and stepping into the UNKNOWN TERRITORY) was,

"Get in the car and keep on driving forward. Don't look back into the REAR VIEW MIRROR".

It was very powerful even until today.

I literally took that advice, that I'd be a new person forward (self-employed real estate agent) and don't look back to my happy, secure days in corporate America...

Wow. Thank you for your post. It brought back some good memories.

You certainly will like QBQ too by John Miller.

@ Barbara, you will be glad that you read it.  Also read 'The Travelers Gift' also by Andy Andrews

Loreena, I will add the Go Givers to my list of readings this year.

Thanks for the responses!
