Peter Kent, Member of Parliament for Thornhill appointed Canada's Minister of the Environment

Earlier today on January 4, 2011, Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Peter Kent as Canada's Minister of the Environment.  Peter Kent is the federal Member of Parliament ("MP") for the Thornhill riding.  Peter was first elected to the House of Commons  as MP for Thornhill in 2008.  Prior to his new role as Minister of the Environment, Peter was Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (America).

Peter previously worked as a well-known television journalist and TV news anchor in Canada and the United States.  Over the years, he has worked for Canadian TV networks including CBC, CTV and Global.  He also worked at the American television network NBC.

The Thornhill riding includes the portion of the Town of Markham between Yonge Street and Highway 404 as well as the portion of the City of Vaughan between Highway 400 and Yonge Street and south of Rutherford Road.

I watched the Town of Markham's Santa Claus Parade on November 27, 2010 on Main Street Markham.  Peter Kent was one of several local politicians to participate in parade.  The photographs in this article were taken during the parade.

I thought Peter was a great journalist.  I don't know much about his political prowess.  What ever happened to his brother Arthur?
