1st Google Docs Blog Post - Thank You Melissa McKinney

Thank you to Melissa McKinney for CALLING me TWICE to explain how to write my posts so that they DO NOT just disappear in ActiveRain and/OR how to write them where the formatting will transfer over.

The other night, I wrote a blog in Microsoft Word, copied and pasted it over to ActiveRain, and saved it. ActiveRain changed the font format... But not throughout the whole post. Just here and there. It was so tiny that a magnifying glass would be necessary to read it.

I corrected the blog THREE times. Had to post a quick “here’s my Pay it Forward because AR keeps screwing up the formatting on my post”, post, just so I wouldn’t blow the weeks Pay it Forward because of technical errors!

Melissa read my irritated post and was kind enough to call me (multiple times) and explain exactly how to do it. So.... right now I am typing my first post in Google Docs.

Just in case you are having the same problems, here’s her quick tips.

1. You must be using FIREFOX as your browser.
2. Go to your gmail account.
   
3. Click on Documents
4. Click on Create New
5. Type your post. Go ahead and do all of your formatting EXCEPT links and photos.
6. Once the post is as you want it, hit Control A to select all.
7. DO NOT right click and copy. Instead, go to the Edit menu in the FIREFOX browser bar and click on Edit and Copy (she does not know why, but you have to do it this way for it to work!)
8. Go to your ActiveRain post (still using FIREFOX as your browser). Put your cursor in the body of the post and DO NOT right click to paste! GO to Edit in the FIREFOX browser bar and click on Paste.
9. Add your links, and photos and save as a draft. Proof to make sure it is how you want it to look and then go back and make it public or member only and save.

NOTE: To name the document in Google Docs, click on the box that has the words “untitled document” written in it. A box will pop up and allow you to name the document! How she figured out that one is beyone me!
