Eataly NY is this somewhat new and definitely marvelous market on 23rd Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City. The concept is just great. It is, for want of a definition a huge Italian market, enclosed, with a fabulous array of cheeses, bread, olive oil, meats, olives, fish, desserts, spices and on and on.
Also in this market are a number of spectacular restaurants, but not typical restaurants. They are not secluded with walls and barriers. The restaurants are in the middle of everything, but great restaurants none the less. The food is to die for, I swear. There are also scattered counter type services where you can order some wine and cheese or dessert and just sit and relax.
They had a section of home made pasta and herbs and Italian butter which if I remember was called butto. I shopped for supplies for a couple of dinners but only after I had a sumptuous meal.
I hope if you are in New York you can make it there. I promise it is worth the trip. I very rarely rant and rave about places I love in the City (but I may start) but Eataly is so worth a visit.
