Mortgage Interest Deduction - Facts vs. Opinions

By
Real Estate Agent

There has been a lot of discussion lately about how the mortgage interest deduction (MID) primarily benefits only the wealthiest Americans. The National Association of REALTORS just did a study that found the largest demographic group who benefit from this deduction (as a percentage of income) are younger-middle class taxpayers that earn less than $100K a year.

This is a link to the entire letter that Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist for NAR, sent to the Washington Post - http://www.realtor.org/topics/homeownership/letter_washingtonpost_010211?cid=WR01042011:5542&ed_rid=1766660
