End of Era - Grand Hotel in Apache Junction Arizona is Demolished

Apache Junction Arizona's Grand Hotel that has been the home to movie stars such as Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, and President Ronald Regan, back when he was an actor, has been demolished. Back "in the day" , (1960s) when these famous stars were on location in Arizona filming westerns at the nearby Apacheland Movie Ranch, they would stay at the Grand Hotel. "In the day" the Grand Hotel was considered a very posh facility, and boasted sir conditioning in all its rooms! However over the years, as the popularity of western movies faded, stars no longer were coming to the Arizona desert to produce westerns, and the Grand Hotel began to fade along with the western films. Over time the hotel became home to local Apache Junction businesses, long term renters, and a restaurant. Plans have been underway for some time to renovate the Apache Junction area where the old landmark hotel stood, and finally the hotel has been demolished, to make room for a new era in Apache Junction Arizona. New buildings will be constructed and a redevelopment plan is underway for the area.

How sad! When I was in Las Vegas for the first time in 1998, I saw the Aladdin get imploded. (Elvis got married there!) There's a new western movie out right now, but like you said they're not as popular as "back in the day." It's too bad they couldn't find a way to keep the hotel standing.

Wow Bob & Carolin- I had no idea they were demolishing that building. I will have to let my dad know who used to live in Apache Jct. and now resides in Ohio. He used to play music there being part of a band. I am going to have to forward the post to him and my sister who lived in that area!!  That was a fun building, surprised it didn't stand the test to time and someone made something 'Grand' out of it!! Thanks for the update!
