I've always considered Chadds Ford, PA more a state of mind that an actual place, but Chadds Ford is where I live and help people buy and sell homes, so it has to have a few particulars.
Technically, the smallcross roads of a town is next to the Brandywine River (which runs the color of brandywijn as the Dutch called it) , is in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, one of the 5 major counties surrounding Philadelphia.
There's a post office, hotel, convenience store, and a couple of restaurants, one is haunted and another one, a diner, is immensely popular - usually a line for weekend breakfast.
Importantly, the Wyeth Museum is nearby, the pinnacle of a long tradition of artists who found inspiration in the natural beauty and history.
Most locals think Chadds Ford is in Chester County, one of the larger (geographically) counties, and more rural. Perhaps because of the renown school system. Unionville-Chadds Ford Schools rank in the top ten in the state

This is but an hour old; and after sending it off to Harper's, I 've made a hasty copy for you, thinking you would care to see it. The poor dove whose sorrow it commemorates wakes me every morning, calling from the lovely green woods about us. We are charmed with our place. I myself have rather too much pot-boiling to improve much, but the boys are having a royal time. May sends a kiss to you both, as does your faithful SL.
