Think Green for your household for your New Year’s resolution.

There are a few simple steps on getting started with helping out the environment.

First ~ Recycle. Most cities right now are adapting a recycling program to help lessen the landfills. There are hundreds of daily item that you can recycle from cardboard, plastic bottles, glass jars and milk jugs to name a few.

Second ~ During the winter season, make sure that insulations, windows and seals of your home is up to standards. Any cracks and openings could increase your energy consumption.

Third ~ Great options are available right now for switching cleaning supplies that are free of harsh chemicals. Or better yet make your own cleaning solution, a cup of white vinegar and a cup of water placed in a sprayer bottle can clean up dirt and soap scum, works great with windows and mirrors too.

Fourth ~ Do you ever notice on rush hour traffic that most cars hold only one person? Why not consider carpooling, walking or using public transport. This is a huge drain in our environment. If you live nearby, start walking, it not only lessens your carbon footprint but also keep you fit.

Those are great tips. Minneapolis is starting a free compost as well which I find is a great idea. The city gives a bin for free and will use the compost for projects around town. I make my own cleaning products as well. No carcinogens and much less money!
