Looks like no New Spending for Pickerington OH in 2011. Our new city manager has seemed to have started out well this year. After starting only about six months ago, Bill Vance has had his first budget approved and it's balanced, does not cut city services, and also provides for paying down the cities debt from it's current $37 million to $33 million by years end. Not a bad start. Thanks Bill. I do appreciate it, because I don't see any new revenue on the horizon for Pickerington and know that property tax revenue is still likely to shrink.
Pickerington's housing market has had its fair share of foreclosures and short sales that continue to put downward pressure on housing prices. Coupled with home owners challenging the auditors assessed value and lowering their property taxes (if you haven't checked to see if your home is valued correctly, we can help you with that mickey.dipiero@realliving.com), we need to continue to watch our pennies as a community. Make sure we are spending our money on the right things.
What this affects more than anything else is our school district. Whether your kids are panthers or tigers, the school district has been working yearly now with a smaller budget. This has led to more teacher cut backs, higher pay to play fees, and fewer opportunities for our kids. As the new operating levies come up for vote, it's important to remember that a strong school district not only gives us great kids, but it also increases the desirability of our community. The more people want to live in Pickerington, the higher the demand for houses. The higher the demand for houses, the more money our homes are worth when we sell. Just something to think about.
