A HAIL OF A LOT OF DAMAGE!
I had an interesting visit with a roofing contractor here in Phoenix today.
Like may home owners of the northwest Phoenix, Glendale and Peoria communities, my home received hail damage from a severe storm the first week of October. See my previous blog on this. Within a few weeks, many neighborhoods started seeing roofers coming in and replacing or repairing roof damage. Eventually, I contacted my insurance agent and he suggested that I have it inspected, which I did, and then I filed a claim.
Initially, I was hearing numbers of 75-100,000 homes being damaged. Over the last two months, I have heard that number grow to between 220-280,000 homes. Today I was shocked to hear that number now being shared by insurance companies it a SHOCKING 550,000 HOMES!
Now, that is certainly a shocking number to me, and I expect a lot of folks, except perhaps people around the gulf coasts of Texas to Florida. I thought it was shocking at 220,000!
Does anyone have any other shocking numbers from natural disasters? The event here in Phoenix has been classified as Catastrophic!
For you local folks from Moon Valley to Peoria, northwest Phoenix and Glendale, if you haven't had your roof inspected, I'd suggest you give your insurance agent or a roofing company a call. There may be damage that isn't visible to the untrained eye.
I have seen roofs being replaced that are less than 2 years old, as well as air conditioning units, cool decking on swimming pools, windows, screens and awnings. For those of us who have home owner's insurance, we are very grateful, and we don't mind paying a deductible to fix our homes.
For others who do not, when they hear about damage, they may very well proclaim that is A HAIL OF A LOT OF DAMAGE!
