Back in the day (1940's, to be exact), some folks came to Reno to arrange a quicky divorce. Many parts of the country required waiting periods of up to a year before a divorce would become final....not Nevada! You could "live" here for three weeks and Presto! your divorce was final. Legend has it that the next step was to go downtown to the bridge over the Truckee River and throw your wedding ring in. But how could you live somewhere for just three weeks? Enter the divorce camp. Lazy A Ranch was just such a place. It must have had some other visitors too, because it was chosen by Ladies Home Journal in November of 1949 as one of "Nevada's Outstanding Ranches".
Current day Lazy A retains much of its original 
charm. The moment you turn up the meandering driveway and pass beneath the lush canopy of trees, you feel yourself stepping back in time. Continuing on along year-round Whites Creek, you arrive at the entrance to this special property. The main house consists of two stories. All the bathrooms and the kitchen have been upgraded to modern convenience without the loss of the midcentury touches. There are several outbuildings, most notably the gathering room immediately behind the main house. Here, a floor-to ceiling stone fireplace, vintage light fixtures, and a massive bar and bookshelves create the feel of a 40's era clubhouse. One can almost see the soon-to-be divorcees toasting their new life over a game of pool or cards.
