This month marks the one-year anniversary of the start of our company ColumbiaGorgeFSBO.com. It's also been just over three years since we moved to the Columbia River Gorge, but I still feel like we've barely scratched the surface of all the region offers. The landscape has enchanted us, hooked us and makes us want to know more.
We knew from the beginning that the people here are phenomenal. It's rare to encounter a rude waiter, a snippy contractor or a disinterested teacher. It seems that people around here have a passion for what they do and put their hearts into it. To move to and thrive in this area is to make a lifestyle decision and part of that is a determination to do what one loves. It's a sense of empowerment, taking one's future firmly in hand and making the dream yours.
And that's our inspiration for beginning our company a year ago. We wanted to create a certain lifestyle for our family. We want to be free to go to Little League practices and kids dentist appointments. We want to chaperone the class field trip, hike to our favorite waterfall or head to the beach just because the temperature hits 90 and then watch in stunned awe as 70 plus Technicolor kites rise above the river. We don't want to feel beholden to or at the mercy of a "typical" job.
At the same time, we realized a slightly altruistic motive, an opportunity to provide a service the community needs but was lacking, a service that empowers owners to sell their property. We're not realtors, but offer a powerful marketing tool to assist owners in selling their property. We've created one central marketplace where buyers and sellers can connect. We literally present property to a world audience. Check out our website and see what we do. It's that simple.
We are both flattered and humbled by the response and success we've already experienced. One of the best parts of our endeavor has been the people we have met and the personal connections we've made along the way. We can't wait to keep exploring the place where we've decided to settle down and call home. We look forward to further delving into the spirit of the Columbia, the awe of the Pacific Northwest. We feel so blessed to be here and look forward to feeling inspired each morning when we realize there's no place we'd rather be. The picture is our son, Sam, with the Hood River Bridge, the Columbia River and Mt. Hood as the back drop.
