Katerina... wow, almost 2,000 subscribers? I am still trying to get to 900.. lol About 10 away... In any case, it comes down to writing good quality posts. Sure, many are missed... but some have mastered the art of writing and communicating thoughts and your posts have done both. What I do dislike about what Active Rain has done at times... feature a post that is barely average, but to give that person confidence and recognized... I only say this when they have said many of times,.. good quality stuff... but hey, they do go change things up during the weeks and do look for fresh faces... but why should those such as yourself get penalized for writing excellent stuff and not get featured... this will always be a major issue in The "Rain". Overall.. good post with some good insight..
OH My GOSH!!!!! THis is the first time today, on a Saturday that I was able even to open up my laptop or get to a computer and I found this post with 94 comments and it is featured! We had basketball games, kids stuff, taking down the tree ornaments, one of our daughters had to move in for 2 weeks today, and on and on, all family stuff! Sorry I did not mean to be away so long!
Thank you each and everyone for your thoughtful comments. I know that I won't be able to get to each of you but I have read every single comment and there are some that I would like to address hopefully after Church tomorrow.
Thank you again and have a wonderful happy new year! We so enjoy all of your support! Katerina
This post is the epitome of what gets featured. From your comment above (#95) you were busy, probably didn't write it for a feature, just wrote your mind, and tossed in the 2 cents. This is what makes blogging content driven. No one wants to read about the same ol', same ol' -- case in point.
Katerina - I have learned much from you and from many of the others who are frequently featured and agree that those who have been featured and who have many subscribers are more likely to be noticed.
Barbara #90- The Florida State of Economy, what attracts people here and where we hope to be heading did get featured. The local posts do get featured, however, even as featured posts they don't get very many comments because most people don't care about areas outside of their markets. I happen to love to learn about different parts of the country so I do read local posts. The post about Florida had only about 15 comments I think- if my memory serves correct.
I notice that they try to feature one or two local posts each day.
I will let you in on a secret- which I guess I should also post about- make comments on local posts. That is the fastest way to get noticed if you are a newbie.:) Katerina
Great post and it is totally reasonable that you start at the bottom and work your way up. Sounded like what happened to me when I joined the work force many years ago.
Katerina,
And you shouldn't even THINK about apologizing for your successes! Indeed, you and the other "biggies" have earned each and every one. Just ignore those with feature envy!
I'm not an SEO expert...don't want to be but I've been a member from the early days when there were only a few thousand members. Out of those members...maybe a few hundred actually ever wrote a blog. I'm talking about when there were moderators. Writers that were constantly getting featured were Colleen Kulikowsky, the late Laurie Manny, Bryant Tutas,Rich Jacobson,Mark Flanders, Ardell Della Loggia,Renee Burrows,John Novack,Sharon Simms...Kristal Kraft,..just to name a few. Excuse me if I misspelled any ones name but let me tell you...these are some of the people I've learned from in the past and back then everyone was wondering why they were always featured. If you look now...most of these people haven't written many posts and haven't had as many features like the old days. I've written a post or two about this subject. If I kept up the pace of writing 10 posts a week...I would probably be way over the 1 million point plateau but I do not have that kind of time for now. I bet you that if you go through thousands of featured posts...you'll also see lots of them that were basically copied from an unauthorized article taken from the Internet. Cleverly altered by changing a few words just to make it look like it was written by them and then featured on the AR dashboard. I'm not sure what to make of those.
I'm really not concerned about a feature post...if I get on then great but remember that if you get a feature post..you better have time to go back and be a mench and answer all the comments left. 99% of what I post is for the consumer and the consumer doesn't know the difference of you being featured or not. I'm not gonna get hired because I'm a good writer...I'm a good Realtor. The writing part is fun for me. I think the premise is if you're popular blogger then you must be a great Realtor or a great Mortgage broker or a great title agent or a great virtual assistant. I'm not sure I agree with that for everyone. That's just my opinion.
Well written Kat, Dr. Wayne Dyers says something like this: You can't please everyone 100% of the time, if you can please 50% your reallly doing quite well. Katerina, I think you're doing quite well!
I agree 100% that if you put the time and effort into the community you should be rewarded for everything you did to promote Active Rain. For those who were fortunate to find this community early on, stayed and produced insightful blogs that the rest can learn from, thank you from someone who is relatively new. I do believe that those of us who weren't here early should also be featured on occasion. Many of us, either old timers, or beginners have thoughts worth sharing and perhaps worth featuring. I would like to see a percentage of featured blogs go to newcomers who put the effort in to be a part of Active Rain and who have thoughts worth being presented as a feature blog. It doesn't need to be a large percentage 1%, 5%, maybe 10 % so that we can all share some of the spotlight and know just because we are new doesn't mean we aren't noticed.
I do not mean this to be negative and if no changes are made it wouldn't mean that Active Rain is not a viable, great community (it's just a suggestion). I intend one day to be featured, whether it is tomorrow, next month or a year or more from now. I will be here and I firmly believe will have something that is featured. I enjoy participating (need to do more of it) and reading all the great blogs and comments.
Hi Katerina...Hard work Helps luck and having lots of Subscribers also help. Like others have said Do your Best, write quality content and for SEO. Being Featured is only part of the ride..one thing that is good is the New friends, networking, referrals and the sharing and helping one another...That's a good thing and why many of us come here and comment and write posts.
Congratulations on your Feature Post !!
Great post and a solid explanation of why we blog. You certainly put in alot of effort and that effort is justly rewarded.
Neal- Colleen was a moderator:) just saying...
Thanks- that could have been a post:) And no, being a good realtor and being a good writer don't need to go hand in hand. Although, it helps because a good writer usually can convey good sales copy that hits emotional buttons to get the phone to ring:) with prospects:)
On line, a good writer can garner many consumers to read their blog on a regular basis. We have a lot of consumers who get our blog posts in their email boxes. When it is grabbing their attention, they want more. We get met on the street with, hey, we read your blog- I like this or that, write more about that or this. And it does not all have to do with hyper local content only.
Practice makes perfect, its that simple, and a numbers game, the more you write, the more likely you will be featured...
i think your 2 cents worth could be worth thousands if people followed your work habits & consistency!
Ty
Thanks, wow, 110 comments so far!
Of course, these types of posts always garner more comments than posts about local content, and these kinds of posts are not going to make your phone ring with buyers and sellers, LOL! But you see, the google juice does garner traffic which leads to referrals- yet another reason to pay it forward with content that connects:) Katerina
Hi Katerina, I saw this post today when I was trying to organize my thoughts and write a new post. Being new to the blogging world I really appreciated you post and found it quite moving. I will NEVER understand those that think the world owes them something. Its really nice to see here at active rain that hard work and consistancy pay off!! I find in my own life that the harder I work and the more I open my mind the more opportunity comes my way. So I thank you today for showing me that Im on the right track!!! I can see why you have so many subscibers you can add me to the list. Have a great day!!!
No problem here with anybody who gets featured. I just love to read the posts and the comments. Thanks for your generous contribution to the AR community.
Katerina,
I subscribe to your blog and the blogs of the others you mentioned. I think you write interesting and useful info which is which I subscribe. I did comment that it seems like a lot of the same people are featured but, that was more in a effort to figure it out and understand what they're doing that I'm not doing. It's a learning process which takes time. I hope it wasn't taken as a complaint. I think active rain works because agents do share. It's one of the top places I go when I have questions I haven't found an answer to from my local resources. How great it is we can share and learn from those from other areas. How wonderful it is we can make friends and have contacts we trust to help our family and friends who are moving away.
So, applause to those who do contribute. I hope to be one of those who can help others with what I've learned. Thank you for being a great blogging example and for clarifying. I learned a few more things from reading this blog. :)
