Friday 'Fun with Puns'

Engaging the Senior Community with Wit and Wisdom

For a number of years I've been sending out monthly newsletters to clients, my sphere, and a "farm" area. The farm area is really two farms, one geographic and the other targeted to Seniors. Some are sent electronically (especially to my younger readers) but most are mailed on distinctive yellow paper.

Mailing these consistently builds trust. Trust fosters two-way communication. A number of my Senior readers contact me, sometimes with real estate questions (which I love!) and sometimes to share tidbits for future newsletters (which I love!) Last week one of my readers sent a list of puns. I'll certainly use a number of them in upcoming newsletter issues, and I'll thank her by name in the newsletter for sending them.

For your enjoyment, I'm sharing some of them here:

  • The fattest knight at King Arthur's Round Table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.
  • She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.
  • A hole has been found in the nudist camp wall. The police are looking into it.
  • Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.

And the last one for today ---------------

  • I wondered why the baseball kept gitting bigger. Then it hit me.

Hi Lottie,  Fun stuff.  Glad to hear that traditional malings still work for you.  Best of 2011 to you !

Enjoyed the pun fun. I'm relying on print mailers and have expanded my home area. It's expensive but it's a way to advertise my localism posts to the neighborhood who might not think to look there in the first place.

These are great!  I think that it is wonderful that you have a way to connect with the seniors in your community!  Have a great weekend!

Hi Bill -- traditional mailings work well. Seniors in particular like them--they play the games with grandchildren, contact me, etc. Younger people don't call me as often, but the mailings keep me top of mind.

Hi Glenn -- how do you advertise your Localism posts from your mailings? Just by putting the links there, or a different means? I'm curious!

Hi Karen, even the Seniors who have and use email seem to prefer the written newsletter. They keep them to share tidbits with relatives, friends, etc. -- which is good! Wishing you a great weekend, too.

Lottie - LOL ..... sometimes I think we have to much fun ..... at other times I think we do not have enough to do

ps ...... printed newsletters seem to have a longer shelf life when dealing with seniors

Hi Kathy -- I learned a long time ago, when I owned a rental condo on Kauai and would attend homeowner meetings there, that it was OK to love your job and have fun! And you are so right--Seniors really like the printed newsletters.

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

I send a quarterly newsletter, not even about real estate, to my SOI, and my readers tell me they wait for it, and they keep it around until the next one comes - pretty cool!  For 2011 I'm switching as many over to email as possible -- trying to be green - but there are plenty out there that don't live on email as we do, and will appreciate their hard copy.  I, like you, think it's important to send reminders to our SOI that we are still out here working the real estate transactions!!

Cara, my newsletters are anything but high-tech--think Reader's Digest. But--they have staying power. I email some--especially to the hard-driving set who don't have time to read 4 pages.
