Does the Super Bowl Really Slow Down Home Sales?

Dallas Tx is expected to be hit with some cold weather tonight (January 8, 2011) you would think that Texans are preparing for a nuclear winter. If there is any chance that Dallas might get snow then people run to the grocery store and buy as much food as they can in case we have to stay in our house for a whole day.

I was reading an article on The Dallas Morning News website that talked about how sales were down in December in 2010 but they weren't as bad as expected.  The article then went on to say that analysts expect a stronger 2011 spring market and especially after the Super Bowl.

Now I do agree that as interest rates continue to stay low then we will see more home buyer's (especially the move up home buyers), but I thought it was funny that the analyst expects sales to pick up after the Super Bowl.

I love sports and having the Super Bowl here in Dallas is awesome, but do you really think that seller's and buyer's will delay their sell or purchase because of the Super Bowl?  I would think not but I've been known to be wrong a few times.

Yes Nick - the football season influences sales in my area - Chicago suburbs. Buyers will schedule their visits around game times and sellers sometimes refuse showings during game time. This weekend the Bears play the Packers - I would predict showings to almost be non-existent (if the Bears make the Super Bowl - we probably should just close our office that Sunday). I have also seen reports that home improvement stores see a sharp spike in sales the weekend after the Super Bowl - the husband (in most cases) finally gets off the couch that weekend.
