21 Comments on Prince Charming or the Invisible Man?
Pat - that's rough, for both you and Diane. My guess is that your hunch is correct, she is getting scammed. Brutal on many levels. I hope we are wrong, but I don't see anyone winning in this scenario.
All best,
Jason Frey
Pat, wow! That's a tough situation. I hope it all comes together. What a crazy world we live in, huh?
Pat - doesn't it smell like a virtual everything? Viurtual buyer with virtual $500K? Hate to think "poor Diane"
I can see it from both sides of the coin. Yahoo to a guy who'll give the other that freedom. But.....you just never know. LIke you're thinking.....better safe than sorry!
Then again.....what's the expression????? If it's too good to be true, then........
Pat, Once again you get to be the agent, psychiatrist, counselor and tour guide. Once again WE REALLY EARN OUR MONEY!
Fiance? Without ever meeting? Did he have the ring delivered by 1-800 Flowers? Sounds a little fishy to me. The hopeless romantic in me hopes we're all wrong and that he is, indeed, Prince Charming, even if it would appear there's more to this story than meets the eye.
Pat,
You are right to be cautious. Could he be a "mail order groom"; my friend's brother is now marrying his second online bride whom he didn't meet yet but will soon. Marriage for citizenship. It still happens.
Personally, I got goose bumps thinking this is creepy and one of those internet scams. I'd stop and ask for proof of funds - period. And, don't take one of those poorly written, overly copied letters that I've received on a couple of my short sales. Sounds like you have your radar up for good reason.
That's sad because it sounds like this woman is being conned. If there really is a Prince Charming he should show you the cash before proceeding further.
Oh boy Pat, I want to keep positive on this one, but I'm with you and radar is up. "Diane" is fortunate to have found you to tactfully handle this...Let us know how this turns out.
Good Morning Pat, I think you are making a very smart move. I am hoping for you and your buyer this is the real deal.
Sounds fishy to me Pat. I hope everything works out. I think you are right to be cautious.
A good friend of mine fell for one those dating scams...after hours a day, for several days, talking online she really thought she knew him. They are such scumbags. I hope this isn't the case for your client, but I really think it probably is.
Yikes!!!That's a tough one.. Keep a good heart, but a sharp brain. Best Of Luck
The story does sound a little fishy. I hope for Diane's sake that he's the real thing and not just a con artist.
Pat, I bet you were excited to be showing these homes, but only to find out it may not come to fruition. The "mail-order" spouse could be what is happening, but sure sounds iffy! Good luck!
Stan--I think I am just getting mad at the thought of this poor woman having her heart broken!!
Jason--I am afraid you are right. It just does not smell right!
Don--I guess I will just plan to be there for her when she falls.
Jon--Virtual $500K---funny. The proof will come when I tell him I
Larry--You know, that is part of it. There is a 1% chance that this guy is for real, so do I throw it all away? No, I am choosing to move ahead with caution.
Charles--You are right. I will either get paid on this one, or I will not!
Geri--REALLY! This woman is no spring chicken, but her lack of experience has put stars in her eyes. I hope in the end I have egg on my face and she lives happily ever after.
Anja--I have had a few friends, relatives and acquaintences who have married for some strange reasons. Hopefully this guy will have to prove himself before it goes too far!
Juli--I would like to think I am too smart/experienced to fall for anything. I am watching closely and will give an update when it is all over.
Maureen--Slightly tricky since I have had no contact with the man whatsoever. Diane has not given me even his e-mail address so that I can send him listings.
Rene--Diane does not know my suspicions. I want to be able to stay with her until we find out if this guy is for real.
Arleen and Tracey--It is either going to be wonderful or awful for us both!
Donna--This guy may be very sorry he messed with the wrong person!
Sharon--My own daughter met someone online and we did a background check on him before she ever met him. It has worked out wonderfully, but the scum bags are out there!
Laura--I like that--good heart and sharp brain! Will do!
Georgie--She stands to lose more than I do. I hope to protect her!
Joan--Long ago are the days that I count my chickens before they are hatched. Until I have a valid pre-approval, I am not convinced.
