Most of the successful commercial real estate investors that I know understand that knowledge is power. The more you know about real estate investing, the easier it is to make money. Because of this, many of the successful investors I know read everything they can about real estate investing. I read my first book on investing in 2002, and have been a voracious reader ever since. Most of the books say the same things, but every once in a while I find a really great book that gives me new ideas, new perspectives, and new techniques for making money investing in real estate. My 5 all time favorites are below:
Confessions of a Real Estate Entrepreneur: What It Takes to Win in High-Stakes Commercial Real Estate - I just finished this book a week ago, and I really wish I had found it sooner. This may be the most insightful book on commercial real estate that I've ever read.
Multi-Family Millions: How Anyone Can Reposition Apartments for Big Profits - This book is probably the best guide to building deal-flow. If you don't already have great deals coming your way on a regular basis, you should read this book.
The Real Book of Real Estate: Real Experts. Real Stories. Real Life. - This book is actually a collection of advice from several different real estate professionals. I actually liked this one because it helped me to find several authors that I liked, and have read more from.
The BEST Damn Commercial Real Estate Investing Book Ever Written! - This is a great book for someone just getting into commercial real estate.
The Millionaire Real Estate Investor - This book was a close second as far as building a pipeline of high quality deals.
Obviously there are several more great real estate books out there. These are just my 5 favorites. I think that it's interesting that two of my top 5 got there because they are about finding the great deals. I guess this is the fun part for me, and it is necessary for any successful investor. This is a topic that I'll have to write more about in future posts.
