Let The Quilt Shows Begin

I know it's early, but already in Billings Montana we're having a quilt show at the local Montana State University Billings Library.  This all started when one of the special library workers wanted to brighten up the dreary gray winter with beautiful colorful quilts.  It just seemed like a good idea to hang them in the library so that students and the general public could enjoy them.

The show opens this Wednesday and lasts until the end of February, during regular hours of the library operation, which includes every day of the week.  The address is 1500 University Drive.

I've attended several of the quilt displays in the MSU-B library, and I won't be missing this one either.  I belong to "Monday Night Quilting" a fun group of women who get together and socialize while quilting, or just having a show and tell about their quilts.  One of our members plans to have a quilt or 2 in the display this year.

We plan to make a few "pilgrimages" to various quilt shows around the state, just like last year.

We plan to support a local event in Huntley this year.  Perhaps if we get enough interest, we could enlarge the quilt show and sell raffle tickets or something to benefit the local park!

One of our local business women, Becky Tescher, is great at organizing these things from her R and R Trading Store in Huntley Montana (she also produces the local weekly newspaper the Yellowstone County News).

I'll keep you posted about quilt shows in the area, I know most people enjoy seeing what's going on in the quilt world.

I'm gearing up to get started on a qulit. Perhaps I should visit a quilt show for inspiration. I wish I had a quilting group like yours!

We have a great Quilt Museum in Massachusetts. A few months back, my Mom, my daughter and I drove up to see the exhibit. Do you like the Jennifer Chiavarini books?

Ooooo, you're a quilter!  I'm going to have to bookmark you.  Thanks for the great inspiring quilt picture.  I also think the quip in your profile is very clever - the one about Montana being like a big town with long streets.  So true!

Joetta- what kind of quilt will you be making?

Nina- I'll have to research the Chiavarini books, I'll ask if anyone else has them at my group tonight.

Brenda- I think some of those streets reach down to Wyoming!  My Great Grandma drove a wagon with her disabled husband and kids across Wyoming on her way to Great Falls.  She stopped and cooked for some ranchers on the way to earn enough to feed the lot!

I'm making a quilt to cuddle under while watcing TV. I want it to be ridiculously detailed, along the lines of a crazy quilt for embellishment. But it will have a design, not random sizes and shapes.

I sure wish that I had more time to quilt.  I had my guest bedroom extended 4 feet to accommodate my huge stash, now I work such long hours I don't have the time. Good to read that you are doing fun things with your quilting group.

@Leolinda--I hear your pain.  I was crazy busy for about 6 years and put my quilting on the back burner.  But a couple years ago I realized that my priorities were a bit messed up with Real Estate.  I was working harder, and not necessarily smarter.

Retooled, and now focus on what works, rather than things that are time suckers.

More time to quilt!!!

cute fabric sqeaurs, although I think it might be best to do the quilt with a white or off-white background. the red is pretty but seems to compete with the colorful fabric blocks. don't be to put off with the idea of binding and batting, you'll never learn with out trying - you could always test things out on some small sample quilt first. if all else fails there are people that will finish quilts for you - Denyse Schmidt has links to places that do that on her website (dsquilts.com). good luck:)
