Old City, Home of Both History and Revelry

Spanning from Front to Sixth Streets east to west and bounded by Vine and Walnut Streets north to south, Olde City is quite the paradox. Tourists and families enjoy the historic side of Olde City, as it is the area where the Quakers and William Penn first arrived and settled in the 17th century. Equally as popular for it's wide array of popular nightlife venues, it is the top choice for young adults looking for a night out on the town.

Many visit Olde City to enjoy a scenic and historic horse-drawn carriage ride around Independence Hall, a tourist hotspot. Rich with history, Olde City is home to Elfreth's Alley, the country's oldest residential street, and the Betsy Ross House where Ross and her husband rented a house for their upholstery business. The Thomas Bond house, now a beautiful Bed and Breakfast open to the public, was once the house of Thomas Bond, who co-founded Pennsylvania Hospital and was a renown surgeon of the day.

On the other hand, Olde City is considered a nightlife paradise, with a handful of night clubs, dive bars, as well as exquisite dining. A myriad of restaurants offers international delights from the Spanish Tapas of Jose Garces' Amada to the modern Asian cuisine of Buddakan, and so many more in between. Something all ages can enjoy is Olde City's  popular First Friday event--- open houses by many neighborhood art and design galleries, and clothing boutiques on the first Friday of each month. A stroll down Third Street will open your eyes to the diversity of the shops in the neighborhood, from artisan cheese to vintage clothing stores. Three Ritz movie theaters are in the area as well, featuring art films unavailable in most movie theaters. Olde City truly has something for everyone.

I miss Olde City. There's always something to do and something to see. It covers everything from the history of the birth of our country to the best modern day restaurants, clubs and bars. And you can walk everywhere. Park the car and you're off.
