Here’s A Peek Into My Fitness Routine

Education & Training with Tom Ferry-yourcoach
There's one question I get as a speaker and coach ... more than any other question. And it goes something like this...

"Tom, you've got a lot of energy, what's your secret?"

For me it's real simple: Eating right, working out, and having a lot of fun with my family. Then people typically then go on and ask, "So what kind of workouts do you do?" And that's my favorite part of the question to answer! Check out these pics and get a little taste of my 3-4 times a week workout.

Yeah, it's not your traditional yoga or gym session right? And that's exactly what I love about it! After almost 20 years of coaching, I’m noticing a trend (I bet you see it too.) It seems the few times people hit the gym are:

#1. The month of January, then the gym gets oddly quiet in February.

#2. A few months before their high school reunion or wedding.

#3. Before a beach vacation.

#4. Before they turn a decade older.

Which one has it been for you?

See, I'm not different than you. Last year, about 5 months before my (dreaded for some, not me though) 40th birthday I made the conscious decision to get in the best shape of my life... no matter what! With the riggers of my crazy travel and speaking travel, I needed to train for endurance and everyday power.

And that's exactly what I did. I found Stark Training Center, booked a session and have been hooked ever since.

At Stark Training Center, they create a custom program incorporating high performance workout design, a targeted body-type nutrition plan and a unique supplement schedule according to your hormonal profile, all to ensure you reach your performance and athletic goals fast. It's totally worked for me!

If you listened to me enough, you know I say, "When performance is measure and reported back... performance improves." That's what Stark has done for me.

Check out my stats...

With a lot of discipline, I've dropped 4.5% of my body fat, added 10lbs of muscle, (I don't care what I weigh, it only matters how the clothes and I feel!) I can lift 50% more in terms of strength and my energy level has gone through the roof (like I needed that one!) One of the best benefits is how much he has exposed me to ... from Dr. Amen on learning to have a healthy brain (you've seen him on PBS, he trains there as well) the importance of getting your hormones in balance and of course eating for your blood type with Dr. Julie Harden, who also trains there.

With discipline, I'm getting closer to my goals everyday ... and it feels great! That’s exactly what the theme is for the year at Tom Ferry-yourcoach. My sessions at Stark are all about discipline! And hey, if you want to check them out for yourself … their address is 17524 Von Karman, Irvine, CA 92614

So now that we are well into the new year, if you're someone who needs or wants to hit the gym and start to get into great shape, know that I support you. Go for it!

Remember, your strategy matters and your passion rules!

Good for you.

I'm a dedicated fitness advocate.  I do weight training every other day on "The Circuit".  I also walk a mile a day on my treadmill.

My diet is vegetarian and healthful and for me, delicious.

I'm older than dirt and outwork everyone I know.

I thought riding a tandem bike with my wife was exercise!   Looks like quite a workout Tom.  Have been off of weight training since I quit playing football in the early 80's.  Might need to ease back into them!  I am not as pliable as I used to be!

When performance is measure and reported back... performance improves. That is so true ... I've started a new 30 minute walking routine as a starting point to get myself back in top condition. This was a very motivating post, thank you.

Gary and I take 5 mile walks together and discuss our day and gameplan.  It doesn't even feel like excercise!  We also try to maintain a gym schedule of 2-3 times per week but we are easily sidetracked with business.

We are both in a great routine now and dropping some excess weight so 2011 looks promising!

me doing my favorite exercise. counting my hard earned commission. Too much gym time means not enough work. A typical active outside Realtor does plenty of exercise during the course of our 7 day work week. Save the gym fees. Get up, get out and earn money. Trust me, You'll feel and look great!

I admire your dedication and discipline - and wish I'd get some of it.

I keep hoping my son will rub off on me. He works a ten hour shift as a power lineman and then goes to the gym because "work doesn't exercise the right muscle groups."

Meanwhile, I know I should get up and do something - but unless I can go horseback riding, I don't get anywhere near enough exercise.

I totally need that kind of motivation. I keep working out all these years but drop off for a few weeks/months when business seems to pick up. I think i will look into personal training!

Tom, You are a man after my own heart. I am 52 and a twice over grandmother. In November I broke 8 Canadian Powerlifting records and am out of retirement officially now, training for the 2011 Nationals and Worlds. Energy does not diminish much with age if you're willing to sweat in order to keep it. Find something you love to do and run with it.

I have lots of energy for my work. Training for my sport merely exercises that sense of total commitment to be the best I can be at whatever I choose to take on.

Hello Tom, I will check out your blog today.

I started going to the fitness center in early December. It was pretty empty throughout the month, but they offered a free week in January and so now it's crowded again. While I thought I wouldn't like that, I actually do because it's more fun with people there.

One of my new friends was kind enough to train me on some of the weight machines and I cannot wait for a couple of months from now when I start to see results from that.

Let us know when you do reach your goals so we can celebrate your success!
