Your hubby, has his jeans rolled up so he would not get grease on them from his bicycle chain. I enjoyed the picture of the Taylor girls.

Even girls wore their jeans one leg rolled higher than the other. I wore mine that way because others were wearing their jeans that way. Of course, I was a tom boy, so I loved to wear jeans. Still do, just don't roll them up anymore.
I thought this fashion was to keep the legs of the jeans from getting tangled in a bicycle chain. Cute pictures of Roger and Barbara. Who is the little boy?
Mary Dunn wins the prize, not Marcia! Bob and I both knew immediately it was to keep your jeans out of the bicycle chain.....boys in those days, and Dude especially, didn't give a toot about having grease on their jeans. Grease would probably have been a status symbol.
Love Barb's boots with her dress and neat sweater. . No jeans for this little girl. I have a picture of my husband, probably about l944, and he is wearing a white Searcy Lions sweatshirt, like Dude's.
Now this is the important part about this picture; I'll bet the farm that Dude's cap was leather and it was red. All the cool boys in those good old days wore red leather "baseball" caps. I have looked for them for years on eBay, but no success so far. Does anyone else remember them?
Ludean, you may have explained how fashion starts. There may have been a reason why the higher-leg jean started and the reason may have been perfectly sensible but others catch on and do it just because they think it is fashionable. Think of the jeans full of holes today that people pay high dollar for. How would they like to be wearing them because they HAD to because that is all they had and they were hand-me-downs??
Mary, I believe you have it. The old bike had no chain guard so pants needed to be rolled up. The little boy is the little brother Montie who is being treated right now for extreme cancer in Texas. He was the cutest baby in so many of these pictures.
All right Anita, we need to get a picture of a red leather baseball cap. Too bad most pictures were black and white. I guess I could ask him but then he'd know his skinny legs were on my blog site and he might be offended. If he had had a red cap it would have been saved by his mother but the things saved actually petrified in an outside storage building. It had to be shoveled out.
I loved the cowgirl boots. To me, that was the cat's meow.

Don, all kids liked them then. Am I accurate in saying that now BIG kids, girls, like to wear them? You ought to see how many are in stock at Hayes's in Searcy. My daughter, in fact, bought a pair.
Don, I figured you would find one. Thanks for the effort but this one (l960) is NOT the one I remember. This one's top is too high and other things "wrong" (different). Keep looking. The boy I remember most wearing one was Billy Cook, Mary Beth's older brother. He would have graduated in the late l940's.
"Red" Morgan wore one, too. Barbara, you know Red. (James Morgan, Lawyer, Searcy).
Hey Barbra, How precious! I love your look - I am especially fond of gingham - Is that a gingham dress? It looks like you liked to take care of your little brother. One never realizes when taking these simple pictures that they will be a piece of history. Thanks for sharing...Got some more?
Anita, you are dreamin' again about those great old days when you were a "charmed kid." Maybe Red still has his hat.
Debbie, that is not me. I have a sister-in-law named Barbara so she is the lucky kid with the cowboy boots. I do have more that I need to share.
