Gary, I learned at an early age to only count on myself.  I think that is why I AM successful.  I depend on me!  As Lou so wisely stated:  If it's to be, it's up to me!

We can't control other people but that doesn't mean people stop trying. It's only when we give up that quest and let the chips fall where they may that we come to realize how little impact we have on anything, actually. Nobody thinks about us half as much as we think they do.

What an awesome post...  and wise words as well.  Like you said; We need to be immune to the actions and opinions of other's!  They are responsible for their own selves and how they react!  Thank you, Gary for sharing this with us today....   I really needed to hear that!

Gary - People are unpredictable because they are not mechanical - they are emotional. Too often we all take baggage on because we think someone did something or didn't do something reacting to us, and in fact, what we are perceiving has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH US. I say keep your head down, do what you need to, and the 'noise' will drown itself out.

Very wise.  Stop thinking that you run the whole show and be realize that you are the provider of information, the contact person, the researcher... you get my drift.  Real Estate is like being the orchestra conductor.  Thanks for keeping it real.

It is funny when things go sideways on the other side of the transaction that our clients think we can just make them do stuff. It is hard to let things fall where they may when lots of emotion if involved.

I agree with you. Actually, that's what they teach my daughter at kindergarden: you can and should only control yourself, not others. see that YOU follow the rules and do what's right... ANother phrase I like: instead of fighting for cleanliness, pick up after yourself. 

That's a good point to remember. It is about them it is not about you.

Oh. So. True. Nothing anyone ever does is because of someone else. It is ALWAYS something that has everything to do with them. The takeaway - Don't take things personally. Ever. It's never personal.

I didn't need this today. I know this, but I liked the post anyway. It can't be said often enough. Great post Gary.

Congrats on a very well deserved featured post.  So true...I am seeing more than ever that what others do is just that what "they do."  I can't control what another does...only what I do...and my response to it.  And I always try to look for that silver lining...it is good for the heart, soul and mind.

One thing is for sure, we can only control our own actions.  Our clients' decisions are their own.

It's true, we are all wrapped up in our own little lives...I try to be available when my clients need me, but not need them to need me.

I agree that we can't take full responsibility for others' actions. However, I do believe that we can influence them.
