I want it and I want it NOW!

I have become increasingly aware the consumer is demanding accurate information in shorter time frames.  This is not only relevent to our industry but across the board.

Waiting in line has become cumbersome, and this comes down to being impatient.

While this sounds like a negative - I actually enjoy the demand my clients put on me as I am able to perform and this enables me to distance myself from the competition.

How to do it.

Technology has become universal to the point of seamless communication regardless of location, and data throughput on the road is faster than ever.

I use my iPhone to receive emails instantly and respond immediately.  I might not completely answer the question, but a response in a short time frame even if only to let them know I will call later in the day - feeds their need for instant satisfaction.

Getting a call from a client who wants information about a property sent to their email.  I am sitting at an open house writing this blog.  I like nothing better than to tell them they will have it in their email by the time we get off the phone.

Those of us who deny the benefits of technology and get "stuck in their ways" will be left in the dust.

Just my random thought for the day.

I ask everyone to think about how they themselves shop on line. Are you even prepared to wait an hour for a response? Once you answer that then you will have taken your first step to understanding how to effectively market online.

I always respond to emails asap. I use a blackberry, and it is short and sweet but quick. I put a signature in that I will get back to them after an appointment. Leads, I call or email to my buyers agents right away.

I strongly disagree with this post. Here's why... by stopping what you are doing and immediately responding to a request for information, you are showing how valuable YOUR time is... not very. Think about it, if you call your doctor, you leave a message and they call you back around noon or toward the end of the day. If you want to show you are on "TOP" of it, put on an autoresponder that says you'll get to it soon. But for you to be tied to your computer, your blackberry, or whatever, takes time away from generating business instead of being reactionary to problems.

I don't know, just a thought.

Bryce,

In response to your comment.  I will respond to people time permitting.  If I am on an appt., or otherwise engaged I will not take time away from what I am doing.  The purpose of this post was to say that technology enables us to implement instant communication.

I absolutely agree with you... We need to provide information the consumer wants and it needs to be juicy, tasteful, and small enough for them to digest in a short period of time (unfortunately the attention span of our readers is very short). Best of Luck.

Adam, great point. Want, want, want is all the consumer says these days.  My company was actually created out of that concept (provide information to the consumer anywhere anytime).  Just an FYI for what we do, we provide home valuations on the go, so if you text in a home address to the number 46873 or HOUSE, we provide back home valuation and details on the property.  It's a great tool that we are always working on, to provide instant information to everyone.  Great post.

iPhone won't do it for me...too many contacts to scroll through...so I'll stick with my Palm until apple steps up the business side.

I do like the capability to respond quickly.  I got an email from a Realtor asking for a pre-approval letter late one night.  I happened to be up at the time and got it to him in about 1 minute.  I sent the email with the pre-approval letter attached.  The text in the email...only one word...

"Boo-ya!"

There is a commercial - VISA - with everyone using their card and then someone uses cash.  This is the prime example of this theory.
